39Degrees, new waterfront restaurant in Gardner's Basin

It is still technically %26#39;under construction%26#39; because it requires another city~required pre~opening inspection. It will be a breakfast/lunch place with indoor/outdoor waterfront seating and an emphasis on seafood fresh from the boat. There will be no liquor license :..(

BUT I was invited to a pre~opening private party on Memorial Day. I managed to get Venusuz %26amp; Ambrva into this private party outdoors on their deck. They had steamed clams, shrimp, scallops %26amp; corn~on~the~cob, and raw clams. It was beautiful weather to sit on a dock in Gardner%26#39;s basin and just eat %26amp; eat %26amp; eat. Since it was a private party, there was also lots of beer.

Besides the owner of 39Degrees, we also met the owner of Web Feet Watersports [whose name I forget] http://www.webfeetwatersports.com/

I hope my 2 %26#39;invited%26#39; guests will also post about their Memorial Day bayside adventure

  • Lazy Traveler Needs Fun Things To Do On The Boardwalk.

I usually go to AC to gamble, but I%26#39;m heading back out there in 2 weeks and would like to find stuff to do. June 8th-10th.

I%26#39;m staying on the Boardwalk at Showboat. I%26#39;ve been to the Lighthouse. I%26#39;d like to go to the beach. Is it even safe for swimming and lounging? I see a lot of cats there...LOL.

I%26#39;m from NYC. I hate to be overwhelmed doing tourist things. Last time I was there, I tried to find Ripley%26#39;s but kept walking around in circles and gave up! But, I found a sushi place@ Taj, which made me VERY happy.

So, I%26#39;d like to just stay along the boardwalk.

I see there%26#39;s alot to do and so on. Makes me regret spending all of that time in the hotel...

Lazy Traveler Needs Fun Things To Do On The Boardwalk.

I was just on the beach by Showboat Fri with my 4yo nephew. I do not think the beach in AC is unsafe. I believe you should stow your valuables and not leave them unattended on the beach [or anywhere]. Ripley%26#39;s is um, not that good. I would go if you have never been to 1 of their museums. I tried to find the aquarium by foot the last time I was there (CHEAP-O!)but I%26#39;ll definatly shell out for the jitney. That%26#39;s probably my best bet, period. ;)

    TITO question

My husband came from Harrah%26#39;s (Chester) with a ticket he ';forgot'; to cash, how long are they good before they expire? I was going to call Harrah%26#39;s, but thought I would cehck here first.

    Thanks,

    TITO question

It usually says on the ticket--somewhere. If it doesn%26#39;t, call them.

    TITO question

I%26#39;m not sure how they%26#39;re handled in PA, but in NJ, tickets previously had no expiration date. However, as of some date in April, Corzine signed a law that said NJ casino tickets will only be good for one year from their issue date. There was a provision for tickets issued prior to the April date, but I%26#39;m not sure if they expired one year after their issue date, or one year after the date the law was enacted.

Either way, it makes you think twice about leaving before making sure you%26#39;ve cashed all your TITOs.

Funny how the ticket cashing machines seem to be down more often lately!

    LuvBreezes

Sometimes the tickets won%26#39;t work at the machine after a specified amount of time, but you can always take it to the cage to have it redeemed.

I remember seeing on the ticket that you could use it in a machine for up to six months. After that, you must present the ticket to the main cage. I don%26#39;t recall seeing an expiration date though.

    '; but you can always take it to the cage to have it redeemed.';

I saw the above post, just wanted to mention that you can cash them at the cage if less than a year old. They do expire now in NJ, one year. Not sure about PA though, sorry. There were many signs up in AC this last weekend advising of the new law that has the tickets expiring in one year now.

First gift cards have expiration dates, now TITO have expiration dates, what%26#39;s next US Currency?

I can%26#39;t see how someone not cashing a bearer instrument can turn into a windfall for these places.

    Bill

    Bill -

This has as much to do with accounting as anything else. The new law allows the casinos to have an entry for ';Reclaimed (by the casino) unredeemed TITOs';.

As the lost/misplaced/dog eaten/unredeemed vouchers reach one year old the amount is added to the casinos bottom line. Before the law was changed the casinos had to carry the unredeemed vouchers on the books as a liability.

Personally I feel that this is total political BS .... Help the struggling casino industry blah blah blah

But it does bring vouchers in line with Lotto tickets which usually expire one year from the drawing

Thanks for the replies, it was a decent win, but not enough to put us in another tax bracket LOL. We%26#39;ll head to Chester next week when my $70 reel cash can be played, may as well make it a worth while trip.

  • Girl's weekend in September

I know this is a long way off but the time will fly...........we are moving our annual girls weekend (12th year) from Cape May to LBI. We are used to having a two bedroom/bath condo at the Star Inn which is part of Congress Hall so this may be somewhat of an adjustment. We have made reservations at Engleside INn. Two of us made the day trip down last year just to check things out so we are really excited to go somewhere new. I would appreciate any recommendations as far as restaurants and there seems to be some shopping in the Beach Haven area. We would really like a two bedroom condo so if anybody is aware of any that they would rent out for long weekends please let me know. We go weekend after labor day - Thursday thru Sunday. If not we will make due at the Engleside Inn.

    Girl's weekend in September

Beach Haven has several condo units and also some town house developments (the Bay Club and Towne Club) that would fit your needs. The Townhouses are not beach front, but the Bay Club has a small pool. Check out www.homeaway.com, www.shoresummerentals.com as well as local realtors. In Sept, most will rent for periods of under a week.

Some of the condo%26#39;s have a pool, some don%26#39;t. The Engleside is in a good location, central to restaurants, shopping and the Surflight Theater. The restaurant at the Engleside is pretty good and if the night in Sep is a bit chilly, there is a roaring fireplace in the bar area that is great for dinner or a nightcap!

In Sept it is a quick drive too Barneget Light for the lighthouse, and some great antique shopping.

    Girl's weekend in September

You didn%26#39;t say how many of you were going, but I would recommend the Engleside over a condo. It%26#39;s in a great location right on the ocean. The outdoor bar has entertainment in the afternoon through September and that%26#39;s always fun. They have some really nice suites. If you booked a regular room, I would change it to a suite. Some of them have been recently renovated and have huge decks with partial ocean views. Definitely ask for one of those.

The party at 39 Degrees was awesome!! When they open definately try the steamed clams, they were some of the best I had. The shrimp was good too. (No scallops for me, I%26#39;m allergic.)

Not only was the food very good - they were very nice and hospitable to the out of towners that ';crashed'; their party. The nuber is 609-348-3999.

What a great time we all had there! As usual, Ambrva was a hit at the party, trying to start a deathmatch over the last Trip Advisor hat. It was actually pretty funny, but I%26#39;ll let her tell it.

We ate TONS of steamed and raw clams, a couple plates of shrimp, beer, and Rich got me an ear of corn on the cob (with butter Slathered on - YUM!). Safe to say, a good time was had by all.

I can%26#39;t NOT mention the ADORABLE little girl, Aubrey (I%26#39;m guessing 6 years old?) with long curly hair who was acting as our waitress. She was just fantastic and too cute for words - definitely a Holly in training, lol.

The woman who%26#39;s the owner of Web Feet water sports was charming and fun, making me want to buy something from her, unlike another store owner there.

I%26#39;m definitely looking forward to checking out this restaurant - YES, they%26#39;ll serve breakfast til 2 pm, which SO works for me. I didn%26#39;t check out the interior tho I think the others did, but it%26#39;s a fantastic setting for a relaxing lunch by the bay, and I plan to spend some time there as soon as it opens.

39Degrees, new waterfront restaurant in Gardner's Basin

We only had one TA hat left and there were two cooks. I suggested that the fight to the death over it. It seemed like a reasonable solution to me. ;-)

    Suggestions please!

My girlfriends and I are looking to head to Wildwood for an extended weekend in August. We%26#39;re in our early 30%26#39;s, and would like a place that is CLEAN, has an oceanfront or at least an ocean view, is not *too* far from the Boardwalk, and preferably has it%26#39;s own bar/lounge either in the hotel or by the pool (yes, and it must have a pool).

we were originally looking in the Crest, but I was just informed that alcohol is not allowed to be served there! We%26#39;re not rowdy, party girls by any means, but would like to enjoy a cocktail or two by the pool if so desired....a place that has entertainment or live music would also be appreciated. Any suggestions please?

    Suggestions please!

    Try the Bolero http://boleroresort.com/

It offers great views at the roof top pool. I think your group may be happier in the much newer hotel section, they do have an older motel wing.

    Enjoy!

    Suggestions please!

Most places to stay are Motels, not Hotels so very few have bar and poolside service. However, you can certainly bring drinks from your room to the pools. The only stipulation is no glass normally. You can stay in the Crest and bring coolers out to the pool areas without an issue.. I stay at the Gondolier or the Attache, and we bring plenty of drinks out to the pool. If you want more pool type drinks, bring a blender and mix them up in your room, then bring them out and enjoy...

as mentioned in the other postings about bringing your own to the pool etc. i stayed at the blue palms a few years in a row, they are very close to everything. there is a bar right beside the place and a few up and down the street. the boardwalk is right across the street so its close to the beach as well. hope ya have a great time. ill scout some areas out for you. my family and i are heading there in june. we were not able to stay at the blue palms, they were booked so we are staying in north wildwood this year. oh yes, they do have a pool. they actually have 2 pools. they own the former white star which has a pool and is right beside it. if you call them, you can request a room there. it actually sits in front of the blue palms and their sundeck you can sit up on and watch the traffic go by and see part of the boardwalk in between stores.

  • Looking for very clean hotel in Wildwood

We are looking for a very clean hotel in Wildwood to stay at with our two children and baby that has daily maid service. We would prefer ocean front but would consider others as long as they are clean. A nice pool would be great too. And should be fairly close to boardwalk. Anyone know of any? Thank you so much!

Looking for very clean hotel in Wildwood

Hi ';beachmommy03';....you won%26#39;t find any hotels ';very'; clean...Personnally, I%26#39;m used to 3 1/2 - 4 star ';hotels';. Of course, I can relate to you, especially when you%26#39;re taking children with you, you have to be extra careful. For the past few years I have been taking my grandson to N. Wildwood..we stay at the (LANDMARK MOTEL 225 E. SCHELLENGER AVE.) www.landmarkwildwood.com/specials.php you can request for a brochure (free) the boardwalk is 1 1/2 blocks away, their are two sides, of the motel...one side you can see the boardwalk clear as day (my grandson loves it) so do I especially at night when it%26#39;s lit up....The oppisite side is where you have the view of the pool...Many more children and famililies....The side I stay on is much more quietier (whew) ...Hope this helps..Their are specials...SUNDAY AND leaving FRIDAY, much CHEAPER I ALWAYS go for that.

Looking for very clean hotel in Wildwood

We have stayed at Armada by the Sea. Beachfront, clean, nice pool and nice family running the place. It is in WW Crest.

Two very nice hotels to stay at are the Port Royal and the Pan American. Both are in the Crest right on Ocean Avenue. Very clean hotels with restaurants and great pool areas. Pan American is closer to the boardwalk.

Not sure if you booked yet, but the Gondolier or the Attache Motels in the beginning of Wildwood Crest are very nice and only 3 blocks from the start of the boardwalk and they are right on the beach

my family has stayed at the blue palms in wildwood and bird of paradise in north wildwood. both are within 1/2 block to a block of the boardwalk/beach. both have pools. as far as ';clean'; everyone has their own opinion. i think both places are nice. employees are friendly. i havent stayed at the bird of paradise for a few years because we were always lucky to get a room at the blue palms. the blue palms also offers discount to the piers on the boardwalk for rides and food. another nice deal for families. hope you find a place. i%26#39;ve been going there 33 years and my daughter 15 years. we r heading there the end of june. if i find anything else, ill get back to ya.

Career Gals come out of the keyboards and into the streets

Craigslist has banned their wares, so it%26#39;s back to pounding the pavement and/or carpeting. w/the big holiday coming up, the ACPD are having a crackdown on career gals.

    myfoxphilly.com/dpp/news/local_news/051909_A…

    AC Hit By Craigslist

    Crackdown Fallout

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - Self-proclaimed ';call girls'; tell it like it is, saying the craigslist crackdown has forced them to look for business inside casinos.

Many of the women say that craigslist was safer because it took them off the streets soliciting, reported Fox 29%26#39;s Shawnette Wilson. Others say it%26#39;s simply about getting more cash if you work the casinos. But many of these women quickly found out that working the casinos is just as much a gamble as prostituting on the street.

';I was arrested right on Pacific Avenue,'; says one woman who doesn%26#39;t want to be identified for safety reasons. She admits she is a prostitute.

She%26#39;s one of more than two dozen women arrested by Atlantic City Police Special Investigations Unit in a prostitution sweep over the weekend.

';We arrested 27 adults and one juvenile,” says Sgt. Rodney Ruark of Atlantic City Police.

But this wasn%26#39;t your typical sweep. While some were arrested on the street, others, like one 34-year-old, were working the casinos.

';We were in Caesars and we were at the bar and were approached by undercover state officers and we went from Caesars to the Tropicana,'; says the woman.

Police say casino managers turned them on to the women, complaining that they were working the lobbies and the bars at five different casinos including Showboat, Taj Mahal and Caesars.

';We dispatched the officers to the different lobbies and lounges that we received the complaints on,'; says Sgt. Ruark.

Police say some of the women said they abandoned the streets for the casinos after craigslist came under fire for its erotic services ads, many soliciting sex.

The Internet site started banning the ads on May 13. One prostitute says soliciting on craigslist was safer than being on the streets but now that it%26#39;s no longer an option, casinos are the latest safe haven.

';You have people watching so you’re not as capable of getting hurt as you are outside,'; she tells Fox 29.

    Another admitted prostitute says working the casinos is more about getting the top dollar. ';Some girls might think it%26#39;s more money.';

Many casino patrons say they are thankful to Atlantic City Police for getting right on top of the problem as soon as they heard of it from casino managers.

Career Gals come out of the keyboards and into the streets

They were always in the casino%26#39;s......always will be in the casino%26#39;s......

Anybody who believes different....I have a bridge for sale..lol

was really suprised back in late april when on 2 seperate occasions i was approached at harrahs. one was an obvious pro

but the other looked no older than my college age sons, and except for the fact that she smiled and wanted to engage in conversation with a 50 (ok 49) out of shape marrioed guy id have never suspected she was a pro by looking at her.

We were at Caesar%26#39;s a couple of weeks ago, and the %26#39;working girls%26#39; were all over the Toga Bar! They were SO obvious, it reminded me of our stay at the Las Vegas Hilton, where it apparently is just considered to be part of the LV experience. Not a part I particularly appreciated, so I hope AC doesn%26#39;t follow suit.

    LuvBreezes

I%26#39;m particularly amused by the last line: ';Many casino patrons say they are thankful to Atlantic City Police for getting right on top of the problem as soon as they heard of it from casino managers.'; Getting right on top of the problem doesn%26#39;t sound quite right when we%26#39;re talking call girls.

As for AC police cracking down on the problem because it%26#39;s no longer allowed on Craiglist, I%26#39;m with Bill - there have been ';professional'; women in AC for as long as I%26#39;ve been coming here, and they%26#39;ve had other crackdowns. Pretty much every year, it seems. Makes for good press for AC and the ACPD, tho.

Go to Ceasars bar downstairs and the Borgota bar and you will see Call Girls. I was approached by two from Cali who who wanted $700 a piece. I found out that Ceasars management thru them out. Also there are 2 Koreans who walk around the Taj slot/bar. I guess they accept quarters for payment.

hey gangster. no doubt most of us guys have been approached, but had to laugh at the fact you took the time to learn what the going rate was? just joking.

gansta what did the 700 entail? do you know if they would charge extra if a midget was involved?

Often wonder why dealers would risk their jobs over something like this.

Man Convicted for chesting @ CT casinos

this is the secon instance i read where employees at both foxwoods and mohegan were in on the scam. i wonder how someone approaches an employee and convinces them to commit a criminal act. not that i would ever do it. you would think they would be arrested immediately.

Parking at or near PATH station at Pavonia/Newport

I stayed at a hotel in this area last year and took the train over to Manhattan. Very convenient and easy. This time I have a car and will just be coming for the day. Can anyone provide any help in where to park my car for the day and evening coming back to pick it up after the Yankee game.

Parking at or near PATH station at Pavonia/Newport

There should be a few garages in the area.

    Anyone will do.

Parking at or near PATH station at Pavonia/Newport

just park it in the garage by newport mall (1-2 blocks west of the path station, right by JC Penney (there%26#39;s 5 other garages 1 more block west from there but it%26#39;s an unnecessary walk).

whatever you do, DON%26#39;T try to save a few bucks by leaving it in the BJ%26#39;s / shoprite parking lot that%26#39;s in the area. your car will get towed.

Isn%26#39;t that the mall parkade? Can you leave your car there overnight or for an extended period of time?
