Bars and restaurants/cafes on the water.

Going to Cape May in June with about 10 people. Haven%26#39;t been there since I was 19 so I am now looking for some night time/ bar suggestions. Is there anything that is in walking distance from the Surf Motel on Ocean Drive perhaps downtown or close by. Something that doesn%26#39;t close before 11pm.

Also I am curious if there are any restaurants or cafes on the water other than the Lobster House with 5-10 minutes away from Cape May.

Any other things that we can%26#39;t miss on a trip. We are in the 25-45 age range.

Bars and restaurants/cafes on the water.

Hmmmm. For Restaurants on the water, there is McGlades, Tisha%26#39;s, the Lobster House and Henry%26#39;s on the beach. There are some other restaurants right across the street from the beach that you will really enjoy as well. I highly recommend checking out the Peter Shields Inn, which is about a mile up Beach Avenue from where you are.

Peter Shields is a gourmet restaurant with sweeping views of the entire beachfront. Right down the street one way is the Pier House and in the other direction is the Cafe Promenade and Ballyhoos. Down by where you are is the Rusty Nail (opening June 25th), a small diner called the Ocean Deck that is a hidden gem and a couple blocks up are Carney%26#39;s, Cabanas, George%26#39;s (another hidden gem), Martini Beach, Aleathea%26#39;s, and some more smaller places.

Honestly, the best bet is to take a look at your in-room guide, Cool Cape May, and find a place that is suited for your tastes. Just up the street from the beach is a plethora of restaurants that will dazzle and satisfy you, I guarantee it!

As for Bars, your best bets are the Rusty Nail, Cabanas, Martini Beach, Carney%26#39;s.

Have a wonderful trip!

Bars and restaurants/cafes on the water.

Try Harpoon Henry%26#39;s in North Cape May, overlooks the Bay, great sunset views, and live music.

I like Harpoon Henry%26#39;s and Harborview. HH is a favorite place for watching the sunset. Harborview offers indoor and outdoor dining in a marina setting.

It is located on Ocean Drive between Cape May and Wildwood Crest.

Martini Beach on Beach Ave. in Cape May. The front porch is glass enclosed and overlooks the ocean. When you make reservations ask for a table on the porch.

We were there last weekend and the waitress suggested we try her new lavender martini it was delicous! We ate tapas and soup. A nice way to sample lots of differnt flavors.

Great service. We%26#39;d certainly go back.

While we were there there was a table of about 10 people, looked like a rehearsal dinner, so I know they can seat a large group on the porch.

Thanks for all of the info. Super excited for our trip now!

You%26#39;re going to have a tremendous time!

Tell us about Family Friendly Resorts

Please share your experience with family friendly resorts on the oceanfront.

My votes go to Lamer and Periwinkle Inn both offer nice big pools, and beautiful courtyards with grass areas. Both offer free parking and have complete beach access right in front of them. Shuffleboard and a sandbox for the kidsis right on site! I think I am going to visit some properties this week and take some pictures. So the traveling community can see really what we are talking about. ';Listen to jennifersvoice because jennifersvoice knows.';

Tell us about Family Friendly Resorts

Both properties you mentioned are nice, but they are not the closest to the center of town. La Mer is over a mile and a half, if I%26#39;m not mistaken. Many visitors to the city enjoy walking and unfortunately, that distance is a bit much for some people.

With regards to pictures, each property on Tripadvisor allows reviewers to post pictures and nearly every hotel, motel and B%26amp;B in Cape May has a website that is also filled with pictures.

Anyway, here are my favorites- tripadvisor.com/GoListDetail-i19810-Cape_May鈥?/a>

Tell us about Family Friendly Resorts

Hello Jennifer,

Welcome to Trip Advisor and the forums. La Mer Beachfront Inn is a great place for the folks that like a resort feel away from the crowds of down town.

I think that almost all of the properties in town are family friendly with the appropriate exceptions of the B%26amp;B community.

Here at the Victorian Motel we have generations that have grown up around our pool. The same can probably be said for the Montreal Motel etc. There are many voices expressed here all with the common purpose of providing the Cape May bound travelor with accurate information.

Family Get Together

Hi everyone, This is going to be our first time to Cape May. It will be about 5 families...total of possibly 20 ppl. We are looking for either a house with, at least, 5 bedrooms and 4 baths, or a nice place with all the amenities. Any suggestions for July 13 week? Maybe nothing is available. Thanks, Claudia

Family Get Together

George listed three great resources and the only other advice I have for you is to speak with some of the local realators. They handle a large amount of the bigger rental properties, which you will need with 20 people.

Cape May is a great place and I%26#39;m sure you will 1. Find a good location to rent and 2. Have a wonderful vacation.

Ben Miller

tripadvisor.com/GoListDetail-i19719-Cape_May…

The problem with the realtors is that they add a commission on top of the price charged by the homeowner. If you want to pay that, go right ahead.

Who truly cares about the commission, if the actual price to the consumer is less than other properties. Seriously. If the realator finds you the vacation place of your dreams at a price you are comfortable with, then what is the problem?

Realators do a service and deserve to be compensated. If someone like George can find the property on their own without a realator than good for them. The rest of us may appreciate that extra help.

Ben Miller

Thanks, everyone. I will try what you all suggested. :) Claudia

Anytime, Claudia. Have a wonderful trip!

Ben Miller

tripadvisor.com/GoListDetail-i19810-Cape_May…

And if you can get exactly the same property on exactly the same terms, for a lower rent, by going to one of the websites, why pay the commission?

Because some properties listed through realtors are not on those websites. To ignore the realtors is to ignore a good portion of the potential properties available.

Ben Miller

If the properties are not the same, then, obviously, they are not the same.

As I stated it, ';And if you can get exactly the same property on exactly the same terms, for a lower rent, by going to one of the websites, why pay the commission?';

How can you argue with that?

And, of course, there are also properties on the websites that are not available through the agents.

ok.

Iselin-Bonefish Grill

I%26#39;ve never had a reason to write such a review. The Bonefish Grill is a chain. Therefore, I am only writing regarding one....in ISELIN, accross from the Woodbridge Mall.

The manager(s)/owners of the Bonefish Grill in Iselin have allowed a server to remain in their employ who should have been fired on the spot.

I took hubby for dinner on his birthday. We are late 40 early 50ish. Long story short...the server confronted the two of us after we requested another server, tried to push a tray from another server onto me, (some spilled on my poor husband), and finally she continued to walk within close distance to the two of us, as she smirked and made comments.

As customers we should have never, ever, ever, been confronted by anyone. We had good reason to ask a manager for another server. We were humiliated and my husband%26#39;s birthday was ruined.

Since the managers/owners of this restaurant have decided to keep such a person employed, I question their ability in other areas to provide good and quality service and especially customer service.

STAY AWAY....there are other locations in Brick, Deptford, East Brunswick, Egg Harbor Twnshp, Greenbrook, Marlton, Paramus, Pinebrook, %26amp; Secaucus.

Newark hotel with trip parking

Looking for a recommendation of a hotel near Newark International airport that allows you to park your car (for free) while you%26#39;re on a trip. We%26#39;re leaving 6am on July 30th for the Domincan Republic and returning late at night a week later. We would stay the in the hotel the night before the trip and the night after the trip. We have had this sort of arrangement at other airport hotels before and are confident there must be something in Newark. Looking forward to any and all suggestions.

Sea Shell Ice Cream

Is it true that Sea Shell Ice Cream closed down?

Sea Shell Ice Cream

Its been for sale for many years but when it doesnt sell the owners re-open the next spring. More than likely it%26#39;ll be back.

Sea Shell Ice Cream

Is there ice cream any good? We always enjoy that 1 ice cream place that is right off the boardwalk in a yellow building. Bananana something. Yummy ice cream, expensive but what isnt at the beach.

I%26#39;ve had ice cream from both places for many years. They are both good but I think Sea Shells is better. Their chocolate peanut butter has more peanut butter in it.

Thank you for that information if they are opened at the end of the month we will check them out.

Sea Shell Ice Cream has the best ice cream so hopefully it will be open.

The Sea Shell carries Richman%26#39;s ice cream.

  • Which place to stay

I%26#39;ve got a few comp. nights at Harrah%26#39;s that I%26#39;m going to use in late July. They are either the Marina Luxury or the Marina or Harbour Delux. Any help about these rooms would be greatly appreaciated such as which tower NOT to stay in and any differance between the Luxury and Delux rooms.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Which place to stay

Harbor is the tower I have heard the most complaints about and always avoid.

    Keep in mind that whatever you reserve ';Room type can not be guaranteed b/c rooms are assigned at check in';

    Which place to stay

Since your room is comped and at Harrah%26#39;s deluxe and luxury mean either harbor or marina tower, it makes little difference but since you have that choice, choose Marina Luxury.

    Thanks guys for the help.

Early checkout....... is it a problem?

First, I want to thank everyone for answering my previous questions. I%26#39;ve learned a LOT from this board in the last few weeks. I%26#39;ve been told I had LFB when booking rooms, and didn%26#39;t even know what it was and never used it until I found this site.

Anyway, here%26#39;s my problem...... I have a room booked for tomorrow night at Harrahs and I might not be able to stay overnight. (I live only an hour away). Will there be a problem if I check in around 5pm and then check out at 1 or 2am, without actually staying the whole night? I%26#39;d be playing probably from 6:30 right through, so approx 6 or 7 hours or so. I%26#39;m also LFB for tomorrow%26#39;s stay. I don%26#39;t want to cancel the room because they said they needed 48 hours notice to cancel. And I will be there. Does anyone think that checking out at 1am or so will cause a problem?

Also, the last time I was there they didn%26#39;t code the LFB properly, and had to reverse the charges on my card. If LFB is done properly, what should I see on the TV screen when I check the account? Should I see the charges and then see them reversed? Or should nothing appear at all?

Thanks again for all your help! I appreciate it.

Early checkout....... is it a problem?

I’m not aware of anyone who ever had a problem checking out after midnight. I know people who have done that often. To be sure, why not call the casino and ask if you have questions like this?

Early checkout....... is it a problem?

Don%26#39;t worry about it. Call them before noon on check out day and check out.

LFB/RFB charges shouldn%26#39;t even show up on the TV screen.

I have checked out early in the past. I had a room booked for 2 nights and I had to leave for a family emergency about 8pm the second night. It affected my ADT. When I spoke to my host about a change in offers she stated that during my last visit my gambling was not where it usually was.

Knowing that, sometimes we get the room for 2 nights if we are going to leave after dinner the next night. My offers aren%26#39;t what they were in the past so I really don%26#39;t care much. I usually stay at the Taj and they don%26#39;t have LFB/FRB so that%26#39;s never been an issue for me but it might be for you.

Make sure that when you do check out they put the check out time as 6pm or what ever the time you check out, there was no record of the actual time I checked out and my host said they put it in for the next morning. They expect you to play a certain amount of hours in a given 24hr period.

    Have a great trip.

Mr. Cashman or Wizard of Oz slots?

Does anyone know if the Tropicana Casino has either the Mr. Cashman or Wizard of Oz slot machines there? If so, can you direct me to the areas? Thanks!

Visitng area - need help on what to do

We are visiting the area in July for 4 days. Flying into EWR but not sure what to do from there. We will not have a car and have never been to NJ or NY. We will be traveling w/2 teens and would like to see sights at reasonable cost. Any suggestions on what to do, where to go, where to stay and how to get there? Suggestions, we don%26#39;t even have to go to NY if there is any other suggestions. If we do not go into NY we could rent car.

    Thanks

Wow. You book flight into EWR without thinking it through?

I%26#39;d suggest deciding on accomodations next.

There is Plenty to do in New Jersey. You have the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island in Jersey City, the Ironbound in Newark, USS New Jersey and the Aquarium in Camden, AC as well miles upon miles of beach land. If you do have a car the Palisades Interstate park is worth a visit. Here are a few links

    www.visitnj.org

    www.destinationjerseycity.com

    www.gonewark.com

That is why I am posting for advice.

Thanks for the info, I will check it out.

No problem if you have any other questions please feel free to contact me.

Do you have any suggestions on where to stay in NJ that is close to subway?

    Thanks

The PATH train goes Has 4 stop in Jersey City if thats what you mean. The Newark city Subway takes people from Bellville to Downtown Penn Station. There are hotels on the Path in Jersey City.

    www.panynj.org

    www.njtransit.com

Wrong PATH link. Here is the correct one.

    www.panynj.gov/path

    Sorry about that

I agree w/ broadwaynyc - decide on your accommodations - in Manhattan or in New Jersey (Newark or Jersey City or Hoboken). Depends on your price-point in Manhattan - tripadvisor is good place to review options and cost.

If you go into Manhattan, I would not rent a vehicle - w/ four of you - rely on taxis or subway.

I live in New Jersey so I may be biased, but if this is the first time for you - I would suggest sites in Manhattan.

I would not try to over-exert yourself and plan to see too many things in a day - w/ traffic, high heat/humidity in July, you might try to balance seeing something outdoors like Lady Liberty in the morning when its still cool, w/ a Broadway Show and dinner at the Carnegie Deli at night. Depends on your kids attitude as well.

    Statue of Liberty

    Ellis Island

Intrepid Aircraft Carrier - Air and Space Museum

Time Square/Broadway show - check out TKTS for last minute discount tickets.

South Street Sea Port - some great old ships docked there

    Chinatown/Little Italy

    Rockefeller Center

    Empire State Bldg

Yankee Stadium - probably an Indians fan (I%26#39;m from Cleveland), so you may not want to do that.

Be aware that hotel prices run the gamut in Manhattan and you may have some sticker shock when you see the prices. Try to find a place that is near a subway line - as traveling by subway - north/south will save you time and be convenient.

Good luck and have a great time.

Also Philly is worth a visit as well.

Harrah's Taste of the Shore - Hours?

Anyone know how late the Taste of the Shore restaurants are open during the week? I will be arriving late and hoping I can get a pizza or sub before they close.

I want to say they close @ 11 or 12 during the week and later fri/sat/, but to be sure call primo direct @

    609 441 5056

Harrah's Taste of the Shore - Hours?

tast of the shore is open 24 hour. or a least it was

Unless I%26#39;m mistaken, Taste of the Shore are the 3 or 4 fast food places (Sac O Subs, Primo Pizza, Ben %26amp; Jerry%26#39;s) next to Reflections. These used to be open til 2 am Friday and Saturday, midnight other nights. As has been said, check before counting on that, tho, as hours are being cut down now.

Never been open 24 hours, but open very late on Fri/Sat- last time was 3AM for the sub place, 2AM for the pizza place. 11 or 12 on weekdays sounds about right.

Just got back from Harrahs. I really wish the food court was open a little earlier. Sac O Subs opens for breakfast at 9:00am but the rest dont open till 11:00.

Newark Airport Hotel to Statue of Liberty

Staying at the Sheraton near the airport. What is the best/cheapest way to get to the Statue of Liberty?

    Thanks

Newark Airport Hotel to Statue of Liberty

Do you want best or do you want cheapest?

Newark Airport Hotel to Statue of Liberty

    Lets go with the cheapest.

Take your hotel%26#39;s free shuttle back to the airport.

Take the airport%26#39;s monorail to the airport train station. Take NJ Transit train one stop from the airport train station to Newark Penn Station. Take PATH from Newark Penn Station to Exchange Place Station in Jersey City. Take Hudson-Bergen Light Rail from Exchange Place to Liberty State Park station. Take #351 NJ Transit shuttle bus from the Light Rail station to the pier with the ferry to Liberty and Ellis Islands.

Cheapet would be taking the 62 bus instead of the train from the airport. All the other steps are the same.

    www.njtransit.com

    www.visitnj.org

    www.goironbound.com

Forgot to mention the 62 bus is a $1.35 exact change.

Yep, you are right about #62. Completely slipped my mind.

Does anyone know about how much that would cost per person? Hate to be picky, on a tight budget. Thanks for the help, great appreciated!!

You can calculate the cost by going to the following websites and adding up the fares yourself:

  • Victorian Motel

I am confused because when i went to the Victorian Motel, I see now that the picture on their tripadvisor page is in fact a picture their pool but also the back of Congress Hall. Why not a picture of the front of their building! What gives?

    Victorian Motel

Congress Hall is right next to the Victorian Motel and the view they are showing is poolside at the Victorian. The front of the motel is pretty basic and from the front, you can%26#39;s see the pool well because of a wall and fence. Beyond that, I will have to difer to John, the motel%26#39;s manager.

Great place to spend a night or a week, though!

    Victorian Motel

    Hello

One of the features of TripAdvisor allows members and reviewers to upload thier own photos of thier trip. I believe the photo you are referring to was just that. It is the view from room 112 or 111 which one of our original posters occupied thus uploading his own photo.

Some folks ask our reservationists if we are the motel behind Congress Hall? Our clerks are trained to say ';no'; we are in front of Congress Hall.

There is also a famous picture in The Tides of Time shop in Cape May of the 2004 fireworks in Cape May. In fact we have a copy behind our front desk. People often remark ';what a great picture of Congress Hall'; and we reply that actually is is a picture of the ';view from roon 310'; where the Photographer sat when he snapped the photo. All in all we are good neighbors with Congress Hall.

    Sorry

    Should have signed previous post,

    Good Morning,

The Victorian Motel is lovely. Great staff, nice location by the walking mall. It is a really nice place and a short walk to the beach. Check out the Chamber of Commerce website or better yet the hotel website www.victorianmotelnmj.com. As John said the great advantage of Trip Advisor is that guests can post their personal pictures and it shares different views of the hotels and area.

    Clancy's

A fantastic restaurant called Clancy%26#39;s opened up on the boardwalk this past weekend. It is right next to the Beach Club (on the North side of it). It%26#39;s open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Open air seating as well as a large seating area indoors. Flat screen TVs. Next year they plan to open the deck on the second floor. Waited a long time for something like this to open.

    Clancy's

Sounds good but kind of a hike for us 826!

    Clancy's

I could use that long walk after all I ate!!

We%26#39;re staying in OC in July. where exactly is this Clancy%26#39;s? What street? thanks, we%26#39;ll always looking for good restaurants.

Go to 13th and the boardwalk, after going up the ramp turn left. It is right next door to the Beach Club Hotel

My wife and I ate there Saturday night. The food was incredible. The service was also great. We sat outside just next to the boardwalk. This was our first trip down to Ocean City, so we were not familar with the restaurant scene here, but we were glad we found it. Recommended.

Are the Royal Hawaiian & Singapore as bad as their reviews?

In a dilemma on where to stay in Wildwood Crest this year. Usually stay at the Regal Plaza, and have been quite happy there, but we want to go a week later this year than usual (usually go mid-June, are trying for the week of the 21st this year). Sick of the freezing pool at the Regal, and the ';iffiness'; of the weather. Rained and was cold all week the second to last time we were there. This is the timeframe where most places seem to be transitioning to their in-season rates, but the Regal%26#39;s rate jumps higher proportionally than many, and we can%26#39;t afford the rate. So, are looking around. Called the Singapore %26amp; the lady I talked to was very nice, but the rates seem way too low for that timeframe, and the reviews on TripAdvisor are horrid. Next looking at Royal Hawaiian--bad reviews, too. We%26#39;re on a tight budget, but the kids want to be right on the beach, and we want to be in the Crest. The further away from the Boardwalk, the better. We stay in the Crest because we don%26#39;t like the noise and hustle-bustle up at the Boardwalk.

I%26#39;d try the Gondolier, but seems too close to the Boardwalk for comfort. Looks like a nice place, though, and reviews are great!

Anybody have any suggestions for a reasonably priced place in late June that%26#39;s on the beach and is just basic, clean accommodations? Nothing fancy, but at least comfortable.

Are the Royal Hawaiian %26amp; Singapore as bad as their reviews?

I have stayed at both of them.. the Singapore is a DUMP!!!! The royal Hawaiian gets a bad rap, and I am not quite sure why. We loved the RH, had a blast, room was spotless, no smell, pool was great and you can%26#39;t beat the location. We stayed last July, and the time we were there, the cops were at the singapore 4 times!!!! I have been going to WW for 25 years, and I have stayed in alot of Motels.. you really can%26#39;t beat the RH.. I will be going again this year.

    Dee

Are the Royal Hawaiian %26amp; Singapore as bad as their reviews?

Hey, Dee, thanks! Fortunately, we were able to book the Regal at a special ';returning customer'; deal they have. (It isn%26#39;t on their web site, and for which my husband didn%26#39;t ask when he called. I called and asked about it, and they were more than happy to give it!)

We%26#39;ll keep the RH in mind, though, for future trips. We would like another good alternative to the Regal, and though the kids love it there, DH %26amp; I are ready for someplace different. I knew someone who stayed at the RH a few years ago and loved it, so I was very surprised to see the reviews here.

We have been staying at the Singapore for 40 years and never had a problem. It was run down for a while however the owners have been making huge improvements every year. Our party has a total of 15 rooms and never had a problem with any of the rooms!! The prices are low because you are going before the season. The season starts the weekend of July 4 through Sept. 4. The pool is large and heated. The owners allow you to use the pool all hours as long as you don%26#39;t distrub the rest of the guests. We meet people every year that used to stay at the Royal Hawaiian and came over to the Singapore. Bottom Line, It is not the Hampton Inn. It is a jersey shore hotel. But I will tell you that the owners are germ-a-phobes and are constantly cleaning. The only complaint I have is that when I first walk into my room, The smell of bleach is a bit overwhemling. But thats ok with me.

    Another question

We are comin down June 21 and I plan to book 2 nights at Atlantic City. After that we might stay there longer or try another beach on the Jersey Shore. Where would you recommend? We are both in our 20%26#39;s and would like a place with some bars. Any place have beach bars? Where is the nicest beaches in the area?

    Another question

You might try Belmar or Pt Pleasant which are both north of AC and under a hour drive. Be warned that the shore is crazy in the summer so make sure you have a place to stay.

    ACES question

I%26#39;ve been SO looking forward to trying ACES and decided to take it on my trip BACK from AC next week, since it%26#39;s suddenly cheaper than it has been.

So, since I%26#39;m iffy on departure time, at this point, can I still take the shuttle, or do I need to present the train ticket before boarding?

Also, where do you pick it up from Caesars and is there a ticket booth at the Amtrak station or is it a machine?

    Thanks for the info--as always!

    ACES question

Aquarius59 can answer that one. Judy, where are you?

    ACES question

    Here I am.

Go to the concierge desk %26amp; ask where they pick up for the ACES train. It is not a jitney shuttle that takes you back to the station from the hotel. It is a bus.

You can buy a ticket online from Amtrak. The codes you want are NYP for New York Penn %26amp; ACES for

AC express train. It will give you a barcode to print out. Take that to the station to an Amtrak QuickTrack %26amp; print out your ticket at the station.

Wondering how the service is doing? I know the economy probably has not helped but now that summer traffic is here the benefit is probably becoming clear.

Try the Star Diner in North Wildwood. Menu has a wide variety, and the food is excellent. For a great Italian meal, go to Piro%26#39;s in North Wildwood. Always a great meal. Make a reservation for that one. Have been going to Wildwood for 31 years and Piro%26#39;s is our favorite place.

Thanks for all the suggestions, looks like we have quite a list to choose from!

The Lobster House in Cape May was already mentioned. We always enjoy it there both inside and on the dock.

Also, we love Sunset Beach in Northwildwood. Great food and perfect view of the sunset.

We like Fitzpatrick%26#39;s Crest Tavern for a late lunch or early supper. If you liked Kelley%26#39;s the atmosphere and food are similar, only better.

As far as the ocean temps, I read somewhere that the cold water was a nautral occurance as far as the gulf stream not being pushed inland as much due to currents or something like that. I%26#39;m hoping things are back to normal this year, but just in case, we backed off our vacation to the last two weeks in July!

You have to try the Bayview Inn. The best you%26#39;ll find and prices are great too!! Best wings!!

Thanks face1, my husband loves wings! We%26#39;ll have to give that one a try!

Always a great show. This will be our 5th year attending. And don%26#39;t forget the practice show the day before (Tues 8/19)

Wish they would bring back the stealth bomber -- it was absent last year -- and it was missed. Don%26#39;t see it included in this year%26#39;s lineup yet, either.

atlantic City Airshow, I should have posted b4 now

Sorry, meant practice show Tuesday 8/18.

    I hope the stealth bomber is there also. at the AC airshow link I posted it states: %26#39;Check back for a full list of performers and schedule of events%26#39;

as the list of performers and schedule is not available yet. is there another site I should see?

Here is a good forum I belong to:

Yes we won%26#39;t make the Memorial weekend DF either. We have all sorts of B-day parties and weddings coming up (Nephew%26#39;s wedding today) and probably won%26#39;t be back until the airshow week.

We have Wed-Sun booked for the airshow.

Maybe we should start a DF session for sometime during the airshow week. Just don%26#39;t invite any of the pilots until after the show!

Saw the airshow at Jones Beach. I have a cabana in Lido Beach, and they flew right over us. What a sight. Just getting me ready for the AC airshow.

Where should i stay for best view

I haven%26#39;t had time to get to AC in over 6 months, but I just called the Borgata to make my reservations for Wed. - Friday. We loved the airshow last year, and staying at the Borgata was fun - most of the pilots stayed there. I%26#39;m looking forward to it.

And this year we%26#39;re staying in the Water Club, for the first time.

Share Your 'Secrets' of Cape May

Now that the 2009 season has officially begun with Memorial Day, I thought it might be nice to kick things off on the boards by sharing some of our favorite %26#39;secrets%26#39; about the city. Cape May is one of those unique places where there are hidden gems waiting around every corner, just itching to be discovered.

Be it a great restaurant that is rarely discussed, a beach that is usually quieter than the rest or a super deal to be had, let%26#39;s put our collective heads together and share the wealth!

    Ben Miller

P.S. We%26#39;d love to hear from Cape May merchants and innkeepers who review the forums. You all have a wealth of information to share and your unique perspective would add a lot to the conversation. All we ask is that you identify yourself and your business.

Share Your 'Secrets' of Cape May

Let me start the discussion with a tip about bike riding through Cape May. Each year, people spend a LOT of money to buy roof racks and other accessories to bring their bikes to the resort. Cape May is a perfect place for a leisurely ride around town with some gorgeous scenery.

What a lot of people don%26#39;t realize, is that there%26#39;s a cheaper and much easier way to do it. Cape May has bike rental services that rent bikes by the week at a very reasonable price. For instance, Shields Bike Rental%26#39;s 2009 price is $35 for the week. That price also includes the chain and bike lock to keep it secure.

Unless you have a special bike that you%26#39;d really like to use, it may be a lot cheaper and easier to just rent a bike in Cape May. If you%26#39;re staying at a B%26amp;B, make sure to check with the owner, because you might even get a better deal... some B%26amp;B%26#39;s offer their guests free bicycles to use!

The State Park --- it has parking, an awesome visitors Center - a bird watching platform - great hiking trails through the wetlands - a BIG beach and you will never forget a climb to the top of the Lighthouse!

This is John from the Victorian Motel.....

I love to burn a secret or two now and then...there are so many in Cape May....

One of my favorites is to call ahead and order take out from the Lobster House. Then when we arrive we have two choices take it outside to the wharf area and enjoy it thus eliminating the wait of ordering it there.

The second choice is leaving and going around the corner to the right and entering Utches marina and sitting under one of thier many Verandas. No one has ever asked me if I owned a boat and the far Veranda has wonderful views of the entire Harbor. I have always been the only person there.

    John

Please note that swimming is not permitted on the beach at the Lighthouse State Park. I just biked by today and checked the sign. I don%26#39;t know how they would feel about wading. But it%26#39;s a great place to do all the things you would like to do on a beach, without getting wet, and without paying for a beach tag.

Enjoy your stay in beautiful Cape May!

P.S. Park is open during daylight hours only.

The adjacent Cape May Point guarded beach requires a paid tag, and has beach tag checkers.

Best little zoo. Cape May Zoo has been our family favorite for years. A great place to take little ones and strollers. The animals are close and the park is neat and clean. Not too overwhelming. There is also a free playground. as a matter of fact It hink the zoo is free just a donation at the entrance.(which is well worth it). I have been to the San Diego Zoo, a fabulous facility but my heart always yearns for the cute little Cape May Zoo.

I agree with all the recommendations posted. My personal favorite is Sunset Beach. Beautiful to go anytime there, but obviously, sunset is the best time.

    Cape May Dog Friendly Restaurants

I%26#39;ll be in Cape May for Memorial Weekend with my dog. I was wondering if anyone could suggest dog friendly restaurants for lunch and dinner? I%26#39;ve been to Cape May before but most of the restaurants I%26#39;ve been to aren%26#39;t dog friendly. I appreciate the advice!

    Cape May Dog Friendly Restaurants

Hi! My favorite is Zoe%26#39;s. When you get your drink, the dog gets a pail of water. The owner will even cut up whatever you order for the dog. Really casual and fun.

Also, dogs are allowed at Gecko%26#39;s, Stumpo%26#39;s, Lobster House, Lulu%26#39;s, and Ugly Mug. One of my ';neighbor%26#39;s'; at the motel went to ---Mountain Cafe on the mall with their dog and were welcomed. (sorry, can%26#39;t remember the full name)

The Blue Pig Tavern at Congress hall is also listed as dog friendly. I made a reservation for the mutts, but checked it out the day before. I felt it was way too formal and expensive to subject other diners to my dogs, so I left them in the room. If I was having a meal at fairly expensive place with linen tablecloths, I wouldn%26#39;t want to sit next to dogs. Though I appreciate any place that welcomes them, I felt this was not the place for them.

The Cape May Whale Watcher,( Miss Chris Marina), was also wonderful about letting the dogs on the boat. Several times during the trip, the employees asked if they needed anything. And the kind kids helped them to get off and on the boat.

And bring the dog to Sunset Beach for a great time. The grille there is also dog friendly.

    Hope this helps

    Have an ice day!

    Cape May Dog Friendly Restaurants

What a great answer! And the name of the cafe on Washington Street is Jackson Mountain Cafe, it%26#39;s on the corner of Washington and Jackson. They have great sandwiches and I love their nachos.

    Ben

Wow. I was just doing reseach on bringing our dogs to Cape May and this info really helps. Dining is usually our biggest problem when travelling with the dogs. Thanks!

Any recommendations on pet-friendly lodging? Where do you all stay?

    NY -

    Bill Mae

    Marquis de Lafayette

Mason Cottage has a dog-friendly room

I have an email at home with a bunch of pet-friendly info for Cape May.

    PM me if you%26#39;re interested.

    Enjoy! :-)

    (Awesome reply Kees!)

Hi! I always stay at the Marquis De Lafayette. It%26#39;s the only ocean front place that will take my 3. If you have 1 or 2 dogs, the options get greater. I love ocean front, so I choose the Marquis. There are many other places if this is not important to you.

But, being able to go to sleep hearing the ocean is a real treat for me.

The rooms are nothing special, but the staff and the weekend breakfasts are super. Depending on the number and size of the dogs, do not book an Abbey Suite. The are the cheapest, but are super tiny.

I prefer the Victorian suite. This is ocean front with a little sitting area out front. These are located in the curved section of the motel.

The other dog options at the Marquis are pool front which have a cinder blocked in outside sitting area where you don%26#39;t need a leash.

    Hope this helps a little.

    Have an ice day!

Thanks for the info on restaurants. I%26#39;m looking forward to checking them out.

We took our dogs to Zoe%26#39;s, based on this info, in early May and it was very nice. Had breakfast with the pup%26#39;s!!! Thanks so much for sharing this info. We%26#39;re heading down again later this week to go camping in Ocean View. We plan on hitting more of the restaurants.

Can anyone confirm if Lucky Bones is dog friendly outside?

    Thanks

Need an affordable hotel for Saturday June 27

Will be going to AC for a night and day after on Saturday/Sunday (June 27-28) for my wife and me. I would prefer not have to spend over $100 a night but would like to stay close to the boardwalk. We%26#39;d prefer not having to drive back and forth to AC from the hotel but we will see what the cost difference is.

If there is a free shuttle from the hotel to broadwalk, that would be acceptable as well.

    Any suggestions?

Need an affordable hotel for Saturday June 27

Will check but $100 on a Sat. in A/C,Not likely!!!

Need an affordable hotel for Saturday June 27

I think you%26#39;ll have a hard time finding a place without going over $100 on a Saturday night, especially in peak season.

About 4 years ago i stayed at a Holiday Inn on Black Horse Pike that had limousine service to AC - free. It may not be limousine anymore, maybe a shuttle now. But definitely worth looking into. And I do know for a fact it was under 100. But its not anywhere near the boardwalk..

Sorry - even disgusting places on or near the boardwalk are going to be over $100/night on a Saturday in the summer.

I did a quick Expedia search and you can stay in a few places near Absecon/Galloway for around $100. Which is about 8-10 miles away, which none that I found offered a shuttle.

    Howard Johnson Atlantic City- $89.00

    Deluxe Inn Absecon-$90.00

    Rodeway Inn Absecon-$94.00

    Comfort Inn Victorian Pleasantville-$100.00

    Compared to..

    Harrah%26#39;s- $359.00

    Caesars- $459.00

    Showboat- $309.00

    Bally%26#39;s-$319.00

    Trump Taj-$329.00

    Trump Plaza-$319.00

    Tropicana-$309.00

    Hilton-$325.00

Of those listed above I would only consider the Comfort Inn Victorian, its on route 322 about 8 miles from the city line. Even that place has received mixed reviews but if you%26#39;re just looking for a place to sleep it would be okay.

Borgata Promo - Black Level Card

In the promo ad it says any Harrahs or Trump Premium card is good to get this promo...

What constitutes a premium card? I have a Trump Executive Level card. Is that good enough to go to the Borgata and trade for a Black Level Borgata card?

Borgata Promo - Black Level Card

You%26#39;ll need the Trump Chairman Card or a Diamond level Total Rewards Card.

Borgata Promo - Black Level Card

A premium cards are the cards above standard. For example, the standard card issued at the Borgata is the ';red'; card; at HET it%26#39;s the ';gold card.'; Premium cards are considered over standard. So at the Borgata you can upgrade to Black Label if you have a HET Diamond Card or a Trump Chairman%26#39;s card. I believe the Trump Executive is equal to HET%26#39;s Platinum card, which you cannot use to upgrade to Black Label.

Ahh..kinda figured it wouldnt be that easy.

    Thank you for your responses.

    Diner

    Hi

Are there any diners, preferably open late, in Wildwood Crest? Wildwood would be ok also. We%26#39;ve never been to one there and don%26#39;t even know if there are any, but my sister would like to try one on our upcoming vacation in July. Any information you can provide will be helpful! Thanks !!

    Diner

New Jersey has plenty of 24 hour diners. I beleve there are a few in that area.

    Diner

Unfortunately, there are not any real 24 hour diners in the Wildwoods. The Tom Cat diner may re-open this year (did not open last year). They are an over night diner, open 11pm-2pm. Star diner in North Wildwood may be open 24hrs during July and August. Other than that you have your pizza places open unil 4am.

    Thanks for the info!

    Hotel Help again

Anyone stay at the Stockton Inn latley?? I%26#39;m going back and forth betweent here and La Mer for 4th of July weekend.

    Thanks

    Hotel Help again

    Hi,

I work here in Cape May and have not heard anything negative about the Stockton. However, I have never stayed there. Sorry I can%26#39;t be of more help.

    Pat

    Hotel Help again

Stayed at the Stockton Manor, motel is in back and it was very nice stay, great location to walk to pedestrian mall and restaurants, has a pool out back

The Stockton is a well run and clean establishment. The Manor house sits on Beach Drive the Motel runs perpendicular to the ocean, so not sure about views.

    People there are very friendly.

    Hello I would definately stay at the La Mer. They just did a huge renovation/ and added more rooms! Always ask for the new rooms! The owners are very nice and down to earth. ';Listen to jennifersvoice because jennifersvoice knows';

Hi! I just wanted to let you know that I was told the Grand Hotel just renovated all of their rooms. If that is the case, I would not hesitate to stay there. We have stayed at The Grand many times and with the exception that alot of the rooms were in need of redoing we loved it. The location is great, the beach across the street is great, same for the pool and Ballyhoos restaurant. So if they have indeed upgraded the rooms then it would be my choice in a second. But wherever you choose, have a great time!

I%26#39;ve stayed at the Stockton many times, never had a bad experience. No frills, but clean and in a great location. The only trouble would be if you have someone that can%26#39;t do stairs and you can%26#39;t get a ground floor room. My dad has bad knees and he always seems to end up on the third floor!

This was our first choice for this summer but we couldn%26#39;t get two rooms for the dates we wanted so have to stay elsewhere :(

    Aqua colored building on boardwalk?

I’m curious to know the history of the Aqua colored (sad looking) building at the end of the boardwalk just as it turns going towards the Flagship Hotel.

We recently walked past it and realized their were people living inside.

    Aqua colored building on boardwalk?

I can%26#39;t remember the name of it but its at New Hampshire and the boardwalk. Its been there since at least 1972 as I delivered the Philadekphia Bulletin inside there and it was several years old at that time. It%26#39;s individual apartments and back in those days it was pretty nice and the location is great if you had an ocean view. Unfortunately it hasn%26#39;t been maintained very well lately.

    Aqua colored building on boardwalk?

    Thanks Jerry,

I agree that building has the most fabulous view and also in front of a wonderful section of beach.

By the looks of it I%26#39;m guessing it now houses as some sort of homeless shelter? At first we assumed it was empty until we saw someone on the top floor open a window.

To bad it’s such an eye sore - makes me wonder why Trump hasn’t gotten his hands on it but as it is in that location - most AC visitors don‘t pass that way so there’s no concerns to clean it up.

I imagine there is great potential for that property but a whole lot of nonsense politics’ attached.

    Thanks again for the info!

    Tornado Alley

where was the pool in the pictures? and the room with the pool table?

Thanks for the photo Tornado - I had issues tiring to post a picture of the it to my link.

We stood at The Flagship and had the an amazing view from the 26th floor - this building was included but didn’t overwhelm the serene setting.

The weather was excellent and everyday we walked to and from the casino area - it makes a more pleasant distance view then up close.

I am still interested in the history of the property if anyone has knowledge.

    Thanks again

we walk by there last visit, it is a shame, great view of ocean and inlet, found out it is AC public

Housing, and it is in bad shape, even the rest of the

    Boardwalk around the corner,

We were there last week and the boardwalk that faces the Flagship is in perfect condition - completely up to the arch park. Going the opposite way towards the Aqua building (past the concrete hub station and the section that is closed off) they were physically replacing the old boardwalk with new planks.

Perhaps it has something to do with that new hotel going up as it will gear more visitors that way.

I find that a very enjoyable walking section of the boardwalk without the crowds.

The Pool %26amp; Pool Table were at the CHELSEA

heres another photo of the Old Aqua Hotel I would like more info on this place too.

    …panoramio.com/photos/original/129322.jpg

It never was a Hotel, its always been an apartment building of one sort or another.

Harvey Cedars Shellfish vs The Clam Shack

Heading down to LBI at the end of the month and we%26#39;re staying in Beach Haven. Is it worth driving to Harvey Cedar%26#39;s or is the Clam Shack just as good?

    Shore with a baby

    Hi,

I have a 5 month old baby that my husband and I would like to take to the shore at the end of the summer (he%26#39;ll be 8 months then). My in-laws live in Bucks County, PA and would like to stay within an hour from them for visiting. From the map, that looks to be route 195. We would like somewhere safe, quiet, close to the beach (walking distance or parking). Restaurants nearby aren%26#39;t a must due to my food allergies (we%26#39;ll cook instead) but some shopping nearby would be a plus. Which beach would be the best place for the three of us to rent a 2 bedroom cottage? What is the best way to find a rental?

    Thanks

  • Reflections Restaurant

Has anyone been here recently? The last time I was there was back in March. I thought I read somewhere that the menu has changed. Do they still have some nice dinners on the menu or is it now just sanwiches and salads?

    thanks,

    crystal

    Reflections Restaurant

Hi Crystal - months back they changed the menu. From what I recall, anything that was a ';pricey'; ingredient for the meal - left! It seemed they still had a few decent options for fish, etc. but that the menu was severely cut down. Personally, I found that the food there was really not worthwhile once you got past breakfast (even they don%26#39;t mess that one up for the most part).

    Reflections Restaurant

Being LFB that is where I usually eat...hope I can find something good on the new menu.

    crystal

If you are LFB you%26#39;d be much better off at

    1. The buffet or

    2. primo pizza/sac o subs in the food court

than Reflections. With poor food and below average service it is tough to make a case to go there at all.

don%26#39;t know much, but for several months the Lobster roll was not available. Then when I was there in April it was back on the menu

once when the deli and the coffee shop was closed my wife needed her choc fix. wandered into reflections just trying to find a desert. I sort of had to sneek in ,the line was pretty long and i was really just there fotr a desert takeout. still tool like a half hour at the counter, then another 20 min to pay and leave.

We are lfb and this restaurant is my biggest complaint at Harrahs. Reflections is just plain awful. Poor food and lousy service seem to be their norm. I won%26#39;t eat in there, free or not.

I really shouldent slam reflections food since all ive ever bought there was some desert, but i did get the impression that the service wasent very good, and the woman at the cash register seemed very rude to the ppl in fron of me. i really love most of the customer service i get at harrahs but its starting to sound like the 2 weak links are the deli and reflections staff.

A few months ago we went there for breakfast and sat there for almost a half hour and nobody ever came over to even offer coffee. It wasn%26#39;t even crowded, but there were no servers around in our area. We left and went to the buffet

I%26#39;m sorry to hear that about Reflections. I have always eaten here and actually liked it...except for the slow service. But that was when I could get either stuffed shrimp, prime rib, or a steak.

I do eat at the buffet also, but I am here for two nights and didnt want to do a buffet both nights.

    crystal

We have found Reflections to be a big disappointment ever since it moved to it%26#39;s new location. For years, the old Reflections was a staple for us at Harrahs for breakfast and dinners. They had a good selection and the service was great. The couple of times we have been there since it moved we have not be thrilled with the menu and the service has been awful! We don%26#39;t go anymore but rather go to the buffet whenever we can. You would think that in a casual restaurant they%26#39;d want to get you in and out and back to spending money, but Reflections doesn%26#39;t seem to work that way!

Best $ options for Morey's Pier

OK, I know that I will be dropping a lot of $ on the boardwalk but looking for advice on how to get the best bang for my buck.

We will be staying for 6 nights later this month. In our group are my 11 yr old son, my 21 yr old dtr and her BF, my sister, my husband %26amp; I.

I guessing the kids will want to do at least 2 trips to the water parks during the day %26amp; visit the boardwalk a few times at night. The adults will be happy with 1 water park trip %26amp; then just do a few rides.

    I appreciate any help!

    Thanks!

    Expiring comps

    Hi,

I need some help. My comps are expiring on september 5th, and I can only make it to the casino at the end of september. Therefore, I need someone to whom I can send 10$ and my players card. Any profits made with the 10$ would be your, I only want my comps to stay alive (110$ in comps).

If anybody wants to help me, it would be much appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Expiring comps

    Which casino?

    Expiring comps

    Sorry I forgot, Harrah%26#39;s casinos.

Ill be at Trump this weekend, kind of short notice. Sorry. But Im sure theres someone who can help you out.

Maybe someone could help in verifying this info but if tekclam used a total rewards credit card would the comps still expire?

We have a total rewards credit card just for that reason. As long as you use it within 6 mos you keep your comps.

Another way to keep your comps ';alive'; is to get a Total Rewards Visa card and use it once in a while. You get 1 point for every dollar charged on the card (if you charge $1,000 for the month then you will have $10 in comps added to your account). The card is free (no yearly charge like some other cards), so you have nothing to lose and it will keep your points alive.

Regarding the visa total rewards card, I have already checked that option, and it%26#39;s sort of impossible. You must be a resident of the USA to get this card. They told me that I could get it if I had an adress in the States, but I can%26#39;t for two reasons. First, I don%26#39;t have any adress in the states. Secondly, everytime that I would make a purchase I would be charge an extra percentage for a) making a purchase in a foreign currency (canadian dollars) and b) making a purchase in US funds outside of the USA. Would be pretty much expensive for nothing. I wish they could offer the very same card for canadian residents.

So all in all, I need to find someone who will play 10$ on my card. I usually go to either atlantic city or casears windsor every 4 months, but this time I can%26#39;t. Each casinos are far away from my home, either an 11 hours bus drive for AC, or a 10 hours train ride for Windsor!

So any one who can help me, I%26#39;ll be more than gratefull. Thanks.

    Hurray!

I found someone. Thank you all for your help.

I%26#39;m glad it all worked out for you!!

SEABLUE Restaurant at the Borgata - How is the salad?

I%26#39;ll be at the Borgata starting on Tuesday and am looking for some food options to give me a break from all the fattening foods that I normally pig-out on when I%26#39;m there. I noticed that SEABLUE has a ';Create Your Own Salad'; where you can select up to 10 items.

Has anyone eaten this salad as a main course? How large is it? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    kc

SEABLUE Restaurant at the Borgata - How is the salad?

had it 2x and it was great.

SEABLUE Restaurant at the Borgata - How is the salad?

While pricey at $17, it is absolutely fabulous. I have always just gotten salad type items, (i.e. no meats) but it would probably be sufficient for a light meal.

I just checked out the menu at SeaBlue and that Create Your Own Salad looked very good, but familiar. They have something similar at The Reserve at Bally%26#39;s for a few dollars less, but they charge $4 to $7 for addons like bacon wrapped shrimp or scallops. I keep saying I%26#39;m going to get that as a meal. If they have the additional items at SeaBlue, I think I%26#39;ll try there first - yum!

Thanks everyone for your replies. I%26#39;m definitely going to try the salad as a light meal.

I%26#39;m all packed and ready to go. Leaving tomorrow morning for Borgata. Can%26#39;t wait.

    kc

I go to Atlantic City specifically to pig out on fattening food. :-)

I hope you have a great time at the Borgata.

I could definitely use them as I%26#39;ll be staying at Bally%26#39;s from the 23rd to 26th and was unable to pick up my booklet. I%26#39;ll pm you my address so you can send the coupons. That is a Very kind thing to do! I hoped you enjoyed using the other coupons.

  • Where to stay

Where would you recommend to stay on or near the boardwalk?

    Where to stay

There are so many places to suit different wants and budgets that you might get some good replies if you provide some details. Do you want a casino hotel? How much are you looking to spend? When are you planning to come, as weekends and other prime times, can be more costly?

    Where to stay

We are coming for a few days durung the week. A casio hotel would be nice but not a requirement. Looking to spend about $100 a night.

Check each casinos web sites for specials. Mid-week there are still some good deals in your price range.

Ballys, Caesars and Trump Plaza are more centrally located.

The Tropicana is advertising special internet only rates.

    tropicana.net/Atlantic-City-hotel-discount

As the weather is nice now it’s an easy walk to other places along the Boardwalk. You might want to check directly with the other casinos for specials. With the economy and competition lately, weekday casino rooms seem easier to get.

    atlanticcitynj.com/visit/visitors_casino.aspx

    Enjoy your visit.

Which would you choose out of bally%26#39;s or Ceasar%26#39;s and why?

It seems like you want a decent room in a good location. If your looking to spend less and get a fine room, you could book the Deluxe room at Bally%26#39;s and stay in the Dennis tower. Just dont book the classic, those rooms are pretty low quality. If you want Caesar%26#39;s, book the luxuty or premium to guarantee that your in the Centurion tower. The temple towers arent good either.

I don’t think any of the rooms at either place are “bad.” Some are just in older remodeled sections, while some others are a lot nicer and have better views. Usually what you book is not guaranteed until you check in. Anyway, Bally’s and Caesar’s are connected and run by the same company, so unless you are mostly concerned about the room, I would choose whichever gives the best price.

Check the prices for Resorts also-I like their rooms and their location.

I have found the following prices for the following rooms, which would you pick:

    Tropicana $88 a night

    Resorts $63 a night

    Bally%26#39;s $90 a night

    Ceasar%26#39;s $125 a night

    Trump Plaza $94 a night

since you said you are in your twenties and looking for a place with bars, i would reccomend tropicana, it has a younger crowd than the other casinos and there a numerous clubs and bars in the quarter that you might enjoy

    october trip

We are thinking of going to AC first part of October, never been here before, usually do the Vegas and Laughlin thing. We have always wanted to try the boardwalk. Flying from Omaha and looks like the closest airport is Philly. Does it stay nice yet in October, is it beautiful then, hurricanes?, blizzards? should we worry? We are diamond members so will stay probably at one of the Harrahs properties. Any hints for newcomers would be appreciated. Also is it dangerous? Heard too many horror stories about the area. Thanks again.

    october trip

The area is not dangerous at all, and to be honest, the fall is a great time to be on the boardwalk. There are no crowds, the weather isnt too hot, or too cold. No blizzards or hurricanes.

There is an airport in Atlantic City. Not too sure how many carriers fly into AC airport though.

    Enjoy!

    october trip

Thanks so much, you have convinced me now if I can get hubby to do the same!

It will be nice but there might be some cool breezes off the ocean.

Harrahs is the nicest of the HET properties, but its not on the boardwalk. Caesars is the nicest one on the boardwalk. Ask for the Centurion tower. Be aware that in AC the Harrahs properties play very fast and loose with reserved room type - if your room is comp%26#39;ed they%26#39;ll put you wherever they want - regardless of what you reserved.

Don%26#39;t worry - AC is as safe as any other similarly sized city. Don%26#39;t run around waving handfulls of $100 bills as you traverse back alleys and you%26#39;ll be fine. The biggest problem is people panhandling in some of the boardwalk casinos. (I never have this happen to me tho - I guess I look poor. lol)

    Dinner for group 15

I will be visting Atlantic City from July 10-12 for a bachelor party. 15 of us will be invading the city and giving our friend a nice sendoff. I%26#39;ve succeeded in booking us adequate accomodations, including a 4BR presidential suite at the Skyline tower, and another 2BR suite at the same.

We would like to go out to a nice dinner at some point, without completely breaking the bank (so less than $50/person would be ideal). Any suggestions for restaurants that could accommodate a large group such as ours. We are strict carnivores. Walking distance from the resort would be ideal, but not a necessity.

Also, any other suggestions for large group activities are welcomed. We obviously plan to spend a fair amount of time gambling and checking out the scenery at the local gentlemen%26#39;s clubs.

    Many thanks.

    Dinner for group 15

If you like Mexican food, and the margaritas that go with it, Los Amigos should be able to handle 15 people. Prices are not outrageous.

I took my son and about 10 of his friends to Carmines for his 21st birthday. They loved it and there was plenty of food, definately less than $50 pp. I also had a dinner at the Palm for 10 people. They have a Lobster Dinner for 2 special for $89.00. That would be less than $50pp without liquor.

    nice suite for 5 women

We%26#39;re looking for a nice suite for 5 women, mid 40%26#39;s 7/11-12 to celebrate/commiserate...don%26#39;t want to go broke...just hang out. Any suggestions please?

    nice suite for 5 women

I don%26#39;t know what ';not going broke'; means to you - but a Saturday night in the summer in a regular room is pretty expensive ($300+ at least).

Most suites in AC have a 4 person limit. Skyline Towers have some 2 bedroom suites, but they also limit those to 4 people. You may be better off looking for 2 rooms - 1 for 3 and 1 for 2.

    nice suite for 5 women

Ambrva is right - this is a tough date on a July weekend. You should try for 2 connecting rooms - with a rollaway. If you want a casino hotel, suites on a Saturday night are hard to get at any price as they%26#39;re often held for high rollers. And even the suites have their limits as they%26#39;re really designed for 4 people max.

I hope something works out for you!

Go for two regular rooms and use the money to go out for dinner and/or drinks.

    Best hotel

will be celebrating our 25th anniv. want to get away to a luxurious classy hotel with outdoor pool. which hotel? and is marina side classier than boardwalk side? any rooms with a jacuzzi?

    Best hotel

The Chelsea is very classy with a nice outdoor pool. You would have to book a suite for a jacuzzi and that would be in the Taj which has an indoor pool. Are you going mid week, which month?

    Best hotel

thanx for the reply. will be going thurs thru sat.whats your opinion on the trump marina? they have some amazing deals right now. do you think we could get upgraded? is it being neglected because of all the talk about a sale?

Have you looked at Borgata? or Harrahs? might not have a room with jacuzzi but I think they might have nicer rooms than Trump Marina -

does harrahs have an outdoor pool. checked the borgata, only have an indoor pool. water club not opened until after the 18th and only on weekends.

Resorts has an indoor-outdoor pool, and their premium room suites in the Rendezvous Tower have Jacuzzi bathtubs.

Otherwise, the Chelsea with their saltwater pool is your best bet.

Or, within 20 miles or so?

Hotel near Ahern Stadium in Bayonne

Newark airport area might be your best bet as Bayonne is the first exit off the Bay Extention. I reccomend the Wyndahm. Take the Newark Bay extention from the airport to 14A for Bayonne.

  • Showboat's Turn

I%26#39;ve been alternating play between Showboat and the Borgata this year, and this past weekend was Showboat%26#39;s turn. We started out at the Borgata to see Mary J. Blige on Friday night and partake of their always enjoyable buffet. We then checked in at Showboat and I began my Quest for the Royal Flush. As is my custom, I began play at midnight. First I hit for 4 deuces ($1000), parlayed that into $2000 with 4 Aces and the kicker, and then parlayed even further with 5OAK for $4 K. I took the checks back to the room and put them on the bathroom vanity so Jim would be sure to see them when he got up (he did :)

We enjoyed breakfast in the room and I slept the entire day while Jim did his usual 1,000 mile run. We redeemed our ';green rewards'; for an apparently high quality 100 foot garden hose (it was Jim%26#39;s turn to pick the gift - can you tell?), then I picked up my iPod Touch and we were off to a great show by Chrisette Michelle at HOB. After a late dinner at HOB,I went back ';to work.'; I started out on slots, which I play when I am tired or as a break from VP. I dabbled here and there with Cleo and Quick Hits for a couple of hours with my stake intact. Then it was on to VP. I was dealt a straight flush on Joker Poker for $1500. On my way back to the room I put a twenty into the triple play progressive and hit 5OAK for another grand just as the guys were coming around to change out the coin boxes at 6 am.

Sunday we had another room service breakfast and then checked out at 2. Of course, I got my lucky bamboo plant! It%26#39;s quite nice - but needless to say, many were complaining that there was no bag to carry it in. blah blah blah. Nobody said you had to take it, right? Anyway, it was funny to see the entire casino decorated with bamboo plants on every slot machine chair - brought back memories of the Hilton%26#39;s frozen turkey giveaway :)

Next stop is Harrahs New Orleans for my 7 Stars trip. You all will have to keep AC company for me until I get back!

Have a lucky week - even if you didn%26#39;t get the bagless bamboo plant!

    Showboat's Turn

Thanks for the fun report as usual. We enjoy Showboat, and the Borg is still trying to assimilate us too. I think we will be going to the Boat and Borg soon to put back some of what you’ve won so they don’t go bankrupt. Good luck in NOLA! Check out the Preservation Hall if you have not been there yet. It’s not a long walk in the French Quarter from Harrah’s

questions about borgata buffet and the jitney

    Hi everyone,

I%26#39;m planning on staying at the borg for the 1st time later this month; I usually stay at Caesars. I have two questions I%26#39;m sure someone out there will be able to answer.

First, is the Borgata breakfast buffet anything special? Do they have eggs benedict or lox and bagels? It%26#39;s been my experience that breakfast buffets are pretty much the same no matter where you go. I was impressed with the dinner buffet at the Borg but have never been for breakfast.

Second, I would like to go to Caesars to play a bit and get my slot dollars. I am an early riser(can%26#39;t waste time sleeping when i could be at a slot machine:) and wondering how early the jitney runs. I would like to be able to be on the boardwalk shortly after sunrise, say, 7am. will the jitney be available that early?

    Thanks in advance.

    N

questions about borgata buffet and the jitney

I cant answer about the jitney but overall, the breakfast buffet is better than others just like the dinner. They have more items and do have lox.

questions about borgata buffet and the jitney

From what I understand, the jitneys run 24 hrs a day. You%26#39;ll want the #2 Jitney that will take you to the casinos along the boardwalk. You can catch it at the Borgata jitney stop that is just outside the Borgata near ';Whim'; and the Poker Room (at the back of the casino). Go down the stairs/escalator and when you get outside turn left. The jitney stop is right there on your left. By the way, request a property map when you check in. The Borgata has a very confusing layout. I was completely lost for the first few days I was there.

The Borgata breakfast buffet is not like the one at the Bellagio. But it is good. Fruit, lox/bagels, pancakes, eggs any way you request including all combinations of omelets, etc etc. Not sure about Eggs Benedict. If you like tea, request to have the Mighty Leaf ';tea case'; be brought to your table so that you can make your choice of teas. It%26#39;s fabulous tea with a fabulous price when you try to purchase it back home.

Hope you have a great time at the B! I%26#39;ll be there this week starting on Tuesday for my 4th trip. I can%26#39;t wait!

    kc

Thank you both for the information.Good to know the jitney runs 24 hours--I had no idea. Sounds like i should definately try the buffet.

Kat-in-Jersey, good luck tomorrrow and have a great time.

    Nord

Only had the buffet on Sunday mornings and it was very good.

I have never eaten it, but they do have eggs benedict.

been awhile, but yes on the eggs benedict, pretty sure they had locs and bagels as well

Thanks for all the responses. Not sure exactly when I%26#39;m going but I can%26#39;t wait.

I remember the lox and nice breakfast at the Borg, but don’t expect great bagels. I don’t think you can find that anywhere in AC.

EZ Way Parking (sharaton 4 points) at Newark, NJ airport

I parked car there are they lost my car keys. at 11:00 PM at night my flight arived and they picked me up at 11:35 and then I was told that we lost your keys.. I had to go all the way to home to get spare key and then come back and pick up the car.

I never reached home till 3:00 AM in the morning. The parking lot is horrible and it has, bad staff and scary people there.

It costed me 200 dollars to remake and program the keys..

    NEVER EVER PARK THERE.. !!!!

EZ Way Parking (sharaton 4 points) at Newark, NJ airport

I%26#39;ve parked there twice for 8$/day, no tax, by far the cheapest rate around. However you get what you pay for. First time was great, quick dropoff and pickup, no problems. Second time also great until I got back, and found they had lost the keys (seems to be a common problem). They drove me home to get spare keys, and then back. Next day they found keys and mailed them to me. They were very courteous about everything. I guess you tale your chances.

EZ Way Parking (sharaton 4 points) at Newark, NJ airport

Interesting. I wonder what they are doing with those keys while you are away?

FYI - We have been using ';Vista'; parking at EWR for years. They are a little bit more expensive, but we have never had any problem. I highly recommend them.

Skypark is also only $8 per day, just give them your business card when you depart and that%26#39;s the corporate rate. You pick your own parking spot and keep your keys. Their shuttle service is usually pretty quick. I travel a lot for business and have used them for years with no problems whatsoever. The only downside is they are just past the entrance to the airport so you have to loop around. It adds a few extra minutes to getting there, but it%26#39;s no big deal.

    LuvBreezes

Ez Way is great I use them all the time and the lot is always full that must mean something

Ask for the GM Corey at EZ Way he is great so is the service I use them every week

I also had problems with E-Z Way Parking. When I returned from a week long trip and picked up my car, I was putting my suitcase in the trunk and noticed the bumper was dented and the paint was scratched off. My guess is they backed into a guardrail or post. Well it has been nightmare to get fixed. They refuse to return my calls or emails. I have turned the case over to my insurance company to resolve and they can not get anyone to work with them either. $480 dollars worth of damage according the adjuster. And I don%26#39;t have it!

    A lesson learned AGAIN!

Do not use E-Z Way Parking at Newark Airport.

    Michele A.

I left my car with E-Z Way several times with no problems. In Sept of 2007 I came back to find that the car would not start because of the battery. We were gone for only a week and there had been no problem with the battery before. I know that battery problems can be sudden. After an employee tried to help with cablesJumpers with not success I tipped him for trying. Triple A did get it started and I left wondering about the coincidence of the battery dying on their lot.

Then in August 0f 2008 I came into the lot at 12:35 am. The woman before me said that she had to get air in her tire. The attendent, Lisa, pulled out a broken portable air pump that was not operable. The woman left with directions on where she could get air. When my car was pulled up the right rear tire was flat. The broken air pump was of no use and I called Triple A who arrived at 2:20am to change to the spare. (I had trouble getting the spare tire to come down from under the car or else I would have changed it myself.) While I was there I noticed another car parked and locked with it lights on. When I pointed it out, she opened the car and turned them off. It made me wonder about my battery back in Sept and I suspect that maybe some things go wrong so that they can get a tip for trying to ';help'; you. I can%26#39;t imagine going back again.

The 1st two times I parked here all went well. This last time it took over an hour to find my car. I had to drive around with them to find it myself.I paid full price to park the car, they offered nothing, not even an apology. I consider myself lucky that there is no damage, I have my keys and nothing is missing.I have seen many complaints on other forums about e-z-way parking too.I will no longer use them and will switch to one of the others.

I used E Z Way parking over Thanksgiving it went great the price was so reasonable made my trip a breeze. Will use them at christmas

    What casinos are capable of

    pressofatlanticcity.com/news/breaking/articl…

Look at this comment below the article:

dealt for more than 20 years, as far as Calling Magee’s cheating allegations ludicrous,” this statment is not true, a good dealer can and would do so if a boss asked. It%26#39;s called hitting sections of a wheel, a very good dealer can on most days hit certain sections of the wheel either making the player win or lose. If its a good tipping player most all good dealers are going to try to hit his section, if on the other hand if the player is nasty and or the bosses want him to lose they will let you know. I have seen this many many times over my 20 year career. In blackjack if the player is winning and winning the pit boss will have you cut the shoe in half or change the shuffle up. With less and less Casino regulations lifting their and lossing up their regulations casinos are taking advantage of it. TRUST ME THERE IS CHEATING AT CASINOS AND THERE WILL ALWAYS BE. Those random drawling%26#39;s on the casino floor are not random at all, they will let their biggest players win them. I am so glad to be out of this corrupt business because it is a disgrace what goes on behind the scenes. EVERYONE SAVE THIER MONEY AND STAY AWAY

    What casinos are capable of

Since you are no longer in the business tell us who you are, what clubs you worked at over the 20 years and provide some more details.

    What casinos are capable of

Casino%26#39;s have a long history of so-called ';cheating.'; Even though the house always wins, they are greedy and wish to win even more, especially in these tough economic times. At table games, especially Blackjack, they have controls in place to prevent and/or stop players from winning, or winning too much. With Slots they don%26#39;t clearly label each machine with the payback amount. Even if they did, they could pull machines off the floor BEFORE they pay out what they%26#39;re supposed to, but AFTER they have taken a massive amount of the players money.

I%26#39;d like to hear the details on the Blackjack cheating.

I%26#39;d also like to know what club(s) you worked at.

Your assessment on slots is way off though. There is NOT a stack of results that gets depleted over time (like VLTs) as you imply. Instead (on a class III machine) the chip cycles through the entire group of results continuously and stops when you press ';spin'; . If the top jackpot is hit it is not removed from the possible results. It is still available on the very next spin.

I’d also like to hear or see some backed up information about this. I’m aware that in the old “criminal” days in Vegas cheating was done, but I understand NJ Casinos operate under some of the toughest laws and are closely monitored by the Casino Control Commission. Are citizens and consumers being cheated by playing in AC casinos, and is the Casino Commission really irresponsible? Or, is this just disgruntled propaganda?

This poster sounds like an Oatron to me :o)

    Bill

Don%26#39;t mean to jump on the bandwagon here, but I think the OP was just cutting and pasting one of the comments on the article. I didn%26#39;t take away it was his experience or that the OP was the casino employee. That person who posted the comment on the article was a real d#@K...but in this day and age NOTHING surprises me.

Hope everyone had a fun weekend...waiting for some TR%26#39;s of big winnings!!

amen to what linwood 123 writes. Anyone who has played roulette for any time knows its true but much less so at blackjack. Not only a sector but a single number. Put up Twenty five for the dealer and see

If you truly think that a casino will start cheating to recoup some of the money you%26#39;ve won for them you have three options:

    1) keep playing until you lose it all

    2) keep playing until you%26#39;ve lost a bit of what you won, but are convinced the table is %26#39;cold%26#39;

    3) don%26#39;t gamble at all

notice I didn%26#39;t list a fourth option which said ';come on a forum and kvetch about it'; :)

This topic should be closed in my opinion!
