We are going to be staying at the Embassy Suites in the Meadowlands from June 13 to June 15. I was wondering if there are any decent beaches that we could drive to. We will have a rental car.
Thanks.
beaches? You will need to drive about an hour south to Monmouth County; the northern-most beach worth visiting is Sandy Hook (Gateway Nat%26#39;l Park). I would recommend you go a little further to exit 109 on the Garden State Parkway and find Donavan%26#39;s Reef in Sea Bright. It%26#39;s a fun beach with a bar, food, and live music on weekends. Brace yourselves to deal with heavy traffic while heading south on Friday and Saturday; leave early to come down. Also, there%26#39;s a fee to access most beaches and parking.
Have fun,

beaches?Heard about that beach. Is it true that it is a nudist beach? I have two teenage sons coming along so I don%26#39;t want any surprises!
Thanks for your info.
There actually is a nude beach at Sandy Hook, but there are several miles of beachfront so it%26#39;s quite easy to avoid. It%26#39;s way, way down near the end; so if you%26#39;re driving in you won%26#39;t need to worry about coming even close to it. There is also a bar/restaurant called the Seagull%26#39;s Nest where you can grab a bite before heading home. By tradition, they sing God Bless America at sunset. Check it out if you go.

Thank you so much for the info
No problem; I live at the Jersey Shore so feel free to PM me if you want any more info. Are you going to the Meadowlands for a show?
Another popular one is Point Pleasant. It is around an hour%26#39;s drive from your hotel, I believe exit 98 on the Garden State Parkway. It has a boardwalk, games/rides, and would also be a good bet.
Another option for travel to the beach (if you don%26#39;t need the rental car) is to take the NJ transit train there. I don%26#39;t know if your hotel provides a free shuttle to the Secaucus NJ Transit station, but if they do then it would be doable:

Point Pleasant is nice for kids. Nice beach as well.
Take a look at New Jersey Monthly - which is a magazine dedicated to NJ activities. They have a guide for shore locations.

I have allways enjoyed Belmar.
