As a way of kick-starting a little conversation in here and getting everyone thinking about that wonderful island we all love so much, I thought I would throw the question out. Plus, these answers will give new visitors to Cape May the opportunity to hear what us %26#39;regulars%26#39; like and why we like it.
So let%26#39;s hear it- what%26#39;s your favorite and why? I%26#39;ll start things off...
My favorite is actually a three-way tie between Carney%26#39;s, Pilot House and Lucky Bones. I love all three and have visited them many times, but I have to say that Lucky Bones is probably my favorite. I have never had anything that I didn%26#39;t absolutely love at Lucky Bones.
On the other hand, Carney%26#39;s makes what I believe to be the best crab cake in Cape May and the Pilot House offers some really good comfort food. In the winter, the Pilot House is a must-visit qith it%26#39;s local, small town feel and the warmth that%26#39;s thrown off from that great big fireplace.
Cabanas is also very good and I enjoy their food, but I don%26#39;t drink and the place is more geared to their bar. According to many people I%26#39;ve talked to that do enjoy the spirits, Cabanas makes some tremendous drinks and it%26#39;s a great spot for sports or live music.

What's your favorite Cape May restaurant (casual)?
I love Carney%26#39;s and grew up going for a late dinner with my parents so we could listen to the Irish singer that played. I also think for a casual family meal with a can%26#39;t miss menu, Mangia Mangia is great. Love the big bowl of salad they bring to the table and how they refill if needed, the bread and all the reasonably priced Italian dinners, especially the baked pasta dishes.
What's your favorite Cape May restaurant (casual)?
For casual dining, I%26#39;m going to have to go with The Lobster House. I knowwww it can be a long wait and a tourist trap in the summer, but the food is always good and worth the wait, imo.
I also really like The Jackson Mountain Cafe on Washington St.
Backstreet Cafe on Park Blvd in West Cape May is my favorite - fresh food - great service - interesting menu - real desserts - BYOB - parking - and friendly people.
For breakfast - it%26#39;s George%26#39;s for sure.
We%26#39;ve also had a lot of luck with Pilot House for lunch/dinner.
I think Black Duck wins by a mile.
I don%26#39;t think the Black Duck really qualifies as casual though, more along the lines of fine dining. Great food though!
Incidentally, I just had dinner at the Pilot House and it was awesome. We had the nicest waitress named Eleanor and things were great. The only problem for me was that I filled up on the cheesy crab dip appetizer (it%26#39;s my cheat day on the diet) and I had to take my NY strip steak home. But darn, it was all really good!
