Trip report May 25-26

My husband and I spent Memorial Day and the next day in Cape May after spending the weekend in the Rehobeth Beach area. On Monday morning we took the Cape May/Lewes Ferry from Lewes and arrived in Cape May around 1:30. We had a great ride on the ferry and thoroughly enjoyed the trip.

We checked in to the Sea Crest Hotel which was perfect for our needs. We had the standard hotel room, which had a refrigerator (but no microwave) and a comfy bed and very nice bathroom, clearly recently renovated. Enjoyed sitting out on the balcony in the twilight hour sipping the beers/cocktails we brought with us. The staff was very friendly and the fact that there is a laundry on site made us very happy after spending a couple of hours on the beach in rather windy conditions and taking a dip in the hotel jacuzzi--the towels/bathing suits needed some sprucing up.

We had dinner at The Pier House, which we highly recommend. It is a bit on the pricey side but well worth it. We had an excellent meal served by Joy, a charming waitress who was very well-versed in the cuisine. Her recommendations proved to be right on the money. Try the lamb chop lollipops for an appetizer--outstanding. I had a flash fried flounder which was out of this world and my husband had a veal porterhouse which was also excellent. We brought back the leftovers and ate them for lunch the next day--what a treat to have such wonderful food for lunch in the comfort of your hotel room!

Tuesday was a crappy day, weather-wise but we took the opportunity to explore the area. We are seriously thinking about buying a small vacation home in the area within the next 4 or 5 years and then ultimately retiring there. As we are not wealthy people, we looked primarily in the Villas area, which has small cottages quite close to Delaware Bay that are somewhat affordable(in the $150K-200K range). We were encouraged to see that not everything in the area is outrageously expensive. If any of you natives can direct us to places similar to Villas where we can do some research, we would be most appreciative.

All in all, a great trip. We LOVE Cape May and the surrounding area. Great place.

Trip report May 25-26

Sounds like you had a great trip, thanks for posting the details! The Pier House (or Water%26#39;s Edge for those that haven%26#39;t been down in a couple years) is consistently a great choice.

As far as the house, Villas is a good choice for the price. Any of the towns in the northern part of Lower Township will be good for you, just remember- off the island. The northern part of the Cape May island is actually a part of Lower Township.

Hope this helps!

Trip report May 25-26

Villas is part of Lower Township. There are several other communities including North Cape May, Erma Townbank and Fishing Creek that are part of Lower Twp. Most homes in NCM and Fishing Creek have public water and sewer. Not sure about the other communities. I know that many of the homes do not have both. Since I live in NCM, I am a bit biased in favor of this community. Why don%26#39;t you Google realtor.com and check out some of the homes. The zip code is 08204, same as Cape may.

Did you check out ';Village Green'; right in the middle of Cape May. I have no idea about prices. I was wondering if home prices have gone down at this time.

Thanks so much for posting your trip report.

For your price range, the Villas is probably the best bet, but as a prior poster said northern parts of Lower Township, such as Erma, might be in your price range as well.

Like Tony, I think North Cape May is very nice as well, but I%26#39;m not sure there would be much in your price range. It%26#39;s possible though given the current economic environment.

You didn%26#39;t mention whether or not you used a realtor. Apex Realty is located in the Villas. I worked with the broker, Dan Senico, a few years ago on a purchase and I found him to be very knowledgeable and honest. He would know the Villas as well as Lower Township. There are parts of the Villas that are just fine, but there are some areas to avoid.

Also - the zip code for the Villas is 08251.

Happy househunting!
