Concert at PNC on 6/6/09--car rental? hotel? Help!

Hi everyone,

I am coming in for the Nine Inch Nails show. I have my tickets.

If I am coming in from Baltimore and taking Amtrak to the NJ transit from NY Penn. Is it best to rent a car when I get off the train? I%26#39;ve been told to take the Aberdeen/Matawan station. Should I rent a car from there? I know there is a shuttle from the station to the show, but I need to drop off my luggage. I am wondering if there will be cabs available after the show--that%26#39;s my main concern.

If anyone has a hotel that is clean and safe in proximity to the venue, can you advise? It doesn%26#39;t need to be fancy.

Any and all help is appreciated.

I would get off Amtrak at Newark Penn Station not NYC Penn Station.

There is a Hilton right at Newark Penn Station. You might be able to get a good price through Priceline.

I%26#39;m going to the same show in Camden. Renting a car is your best option. You do not have to go into New York at all. As matter of fact you do not have to go to Newark either. Take Amtrak to Metropark, at Metropark take New Jersey Transit one Stop to Rahway, and change ther for the North Jersey Coast line train to Aberdeen Matawan. I would also call NJT. (973)275-5555 for shuttle info. If my Memory serves me corectly there is an Enterprise on 27 within walking distance of Metropark.

It is true that Amtrak stops at Metropark, but not all the Amtrak trains do though. All Amtrak trains stop at Newark.

Thanks, everyone. This is a big help. If I need to rent a car, I will. Aerules, have fun at the show in Camden.

No problem. If you have any other questions feel free to contact me.

You could try the Holiday Inn in Tinton Falls at Exit 105; they used to be the host hotel for the bands at PNC (not sure if they are this season). There%26#39;s also a Marriot Courtyard off Exit 109 in Lincroft (Red Bank). Either location will put you 10-15 minutes straight up the parkway to the PNC.

Have fun and try to stay out of trouble; lately just taking a breath can get you popped at PNC!

There are buses from Port Authority in NYC directly to the Arts Center. However, if you are planning on renting a car, then your best bet is just doing it down in Baltimore and driving up. From Baltimore the Arts Center is about a 2 1/2 hour to 3 hour drive. If you take Amtrak your trip is going to be much longer since you are going to have to either transfer at Penn, Newark or MetroPark to get a bus or a cab. Seems like a huge headache to me.

I am unfortunately missing the NIN shows in the NY area. However, I am seeing them in Athens this summer. Just wanted to rub that in a little.

any opinions on bayview rooms vs harbor and marina

in the past we have always had either harbor or marina tower rooms. but on our next trip weve already booked they show us staying in the bayview towers? i know they are supposed to be nicer, and do look nicer.but is there anything special about the view,or location?. seems alot further away from the casino floor based on the map. personally im just looking forward to that flight,so this is more of a i have ac on the brain type post but i wouldent mind anyones opinions if they have stayed there vs the other 2 towers? thanks again DAN

any opinions on bayview rooms vs harbor and marina

stayed in all 3 towers. bayview is a lot nicer. big bathroom. i usually always get the marina view. it is a little further away from the casino floor, but closer to the food court, buffet, pool, reflections.

i stayed in marina last time because i like being close to casino.. all i have to say is unless you get the higher floors that are remodeled, stay away. the walls were paper thin and i could hear everything both neighbors were doing. i%26#39;d rather walk from bayview.

melissa

any opinions on bayview rooms vs harbor and marina

Bayview rooms are much larger and the bathrooms are huge and unlike the Waterfront Tower, have both a stall shower and a tub. They are farther away from the casino but right at Reflections, the buffet, Taste of the Shore and the Pool. Nice rooms and the ones we like the best.

hey thanks. yes i am familiar with their location,

actually we never minded the harbor tower, and like being closer to the casino. but since its going to be our 26th anniversary hearing that they are much nicer rooms is what i really wanted to hear i guess.

Bayview is our fav because it%26#39;s closer to the pool and Mr Jerze LOVED the bathroom with the seperate tub and shower.

My order is Bayview, Marina--love the hardwood flooring, and Harbor.

Have Fun!

Sandy

I concur with the others that Bayview towers rooms are the nicest of the ones you listed.

Go with the Bayview. Much nicer.

We used to stay in the Bayview all the time when it was brandy-new. Love it there! Have fun!

thanks,thanks,and thanks again.

i knew they were going to be nicer, sentimentaly ,we like harbor since it was the tower we stayed in for our first ever junket to harrajhs and my 1st ever handpay.

last trip we stayed in the marina tower,my winningest trip ever.

this trip im looking for the nicest view and a chance to try something new, not a guarentee ill get it since its a junket, but on our last stay some ppl got bayview, and when i look up my reservation oy shows bayview. thanks again, ill glsdly walk further. if it means a nicer room,i play more on the brigatine entrance end of the casino, but my wife loves shopping near the valet entrance.

If you don%26#39;t mind a tub shower, the Marina Luxury rooms are nice. They have those great wooden floors and the flat screen tv. I do like the convenience of the location because I stay up late and gamble by myself and I am not afraid to go up to my room while the bell-hops are right by the elevators.

good seafood restaurant

My parents are heading down to Cape May for the first time and are looking for a good seafood restaurant that is reasonably priced. Any recommendations?

good seafood restaurant

We have found the Black Duck to be the most reliable restaurant in town, and because they don%26#39;t have a liquor license, you can bring your own and save a bundle.

good seafood restaurant

I%26#39;d also recommend Freda%26#39;s, Washington Inn and for something a little less formal, Lucky Bones! Plus, if they%26#39;re looking for a good atmosphere with really fresh seafood, check out the Lobster House Raw Bar (It also serves cooked seafood) or they can eat on the Schooner American at the Lobster House.

Ben Miller

Hello==

I suspect you might get as many opinions on this subject as there are posters to TA.

For me the most consistent and reasonably priced eatery is the Madd Batter in the Carroll Villa Hotel.

They clearly have one of the best Crab Cakes in town and always have interesting seafood specials.

If your parents have not been to Cape May before I would suggest lunch on the docks at the Lobster HOuse and then Dinner at the MB.

John

Thank you all so much!!! You have been very helpful!!

Happy to help. You might also want to check out these other threads from people who have asked the same quesiton in the past. Maybe it%26#39;ll give you some more suggestions...

They often serve a %26#39;whole fish%26#39; at dinner at Lucky Bones -- I get it whenever it is available -- also Lunch on the Schooner America outside the Lobster House is a fine choice and a wonderful dining venue.

Harborview Restaurant is reasonable and good. As you leave Cape May, take the first right onto Ocean Drive

(just before the traffic light) Harborview is about a mile down on the right just before a small bridge. (If you cross a bridge, you went too far)

Nice views of a marina and back bay.

Further down Ocean Drive, on the left, is Axxelson%26#39;s Blue Claw.(you cross two small bridges). Very nice atmosphere. Piano player. A bit pricey.

Please share your affiliation with the Inn of Cape May and Aleathea%26#39;s restaurant....

Ben Miller

Good Afternoon,

My vote is for Lucky Bones, Lobster House OR Harborview. They are great.

6/5 to 6/7

Heading down next weekend. Anyone going to be around? We would love to meet up for a drink or 2...or 3. Staying at Harrah%26#39;s.

6/5 to 6/7

sorry teach. not going again till our anniversary in late july.

but while you are there ,try having more than 2,3 or 4 drinks ok. have fun

6/5 to 6/7

We leave for Hawaii late June to visit our daughter who is teaching there. Need to work on our ';tans'; before we go LOL. Will be in Sea Isle about 20 miles from AC the 18th to the 25th. Let me know the dates, I will know not to look for the windbreaker!

wow, great memory. we are flying in july23rd,and leaving the 25th. our anniversary is the 24th.

yeah,no jacket this time. i had some really good luck wearing it though,or maybe it was the new sneakers? hmmmmmmmm better try buying something new and lucky fot the next trip.

Hey girl - I MIGHT be there. I%26#39;ll let you know for sure later in the week. Either way I hope you have a fab time!!

My plan is to use as many of the coupons from the Diamond Book as we possibly can. We leave June 23 to visit our daughter in Hawaii, so the book will be useless when we get back, trying to plan a strategy for meals and cocktails! Need to work on a tan before we head to the island.

  • Borgata TR 5/12

Hi, I haven%26#39;t posted in a long time but wanted to share this story with you. I took my Mom to Borgata for the day. She is 81 and not well. She is in a wheelchair and uses oxygen 24/7.. She enjoys AC and it is fun for her to get out and about once in a while. We like Borgata because it is so clean and airy and even though people smoke in some sections, it doesn%26#39;t smell that smokey.

She gets all dressed up and I must say looks great. We arrived at Borgata around 10:30. We start playing our favorite penny machines. I love Panda and hit $145. with one spin. Mom is playing 50 cents on 100 Lions and is amazed at my win. I convince her to play the other Panda machine and she hesitates not wanting to spend 1.00 per spin, but gives in and starts winning like crazy. She cashes out over $300. So we had a nice start to the day.

We play some other penny machines. My Mom plays 30 cents a spin so she can hold on to her winnings. We play for a while and then decide to have lunch in the Amphora lounge. It is excellent as usual.

After lunch, I tell her it is time to play my favorite game, Mr. Cashman. I wheel her to the end machine and I play a machine two machines away from her. She is playing 50 cents a spin. She is playing Jewel of the Enchantress. Her machine keeps paying her and I tell her to play $1.25 since the machine seems to be paying and giving her Cashman quite often. She says she would give it a try and with the first $1.25 gets Cashman.

She gets the bonus where Cashman comes out and re-pins the reels. I say he better re-spin them all and sure enough he does. She ends up with three diamonds in the center which makes all three center reels wild. I know this is a good hit! Cashman throws a 5 times and I tell her that she won a nice amount of money. Then I look at the line payoffs and see one for $250, one for $125 and a few for $50. I tell her she won over $400! Well, the credit meter goes well past $400 and now I tell her that I can%26#39;t add up the wins fast enough and don%26#39;t really know what she won. It goes past $1,000, past $1,500, now my Mom is shaking with excitement! It finishes paying at $2,075.!

They came and paid her and she was really excited. I was so thrilled for her. We left Borgata around 4 pm and had a big smile on our faces.

    Borgata TR 5/12

****We left Borgata around 4 pm and had a big smile on our faces.****

And thanks for putting a big smile on mine.

My mom loved slots, too, and always dressed beautifully.

I am vicariously happy through your wonderful outing.

    Thanks for sharing! :):):)

    Borgata TR 5/12

I to am happy for your mother%26#39;s win, I take My mom to foxwoods when she feels up to it, and loves it, she is 81, foxwoods is closer for her 2hr drive compare to a 7hr drive to AC

Thank you so much for posting that! It%26#39;s great to hear that your Mother likes to get out and about, particularly ';She gets all dressed up and I must say looks great.'; That is wonderful! I bet she%26#39;s more beautiful than ever on these trips, because getting dressed to the nines and looking forward to a day (or night) of gambling does that!

And to get such a big win, that%26#39;s just amazing! I%26#39;m so glad you had a good day out with your mother, capped by a fantastic win by her. I can just imagine the smiles as you left there, lol. WTG, Mom %26amp; NJGirl!!!

This is such a nice story. Thanks for sharing. Your mom reminds me of my grandma!

    TC

everyone already said it! what a great read first thing this am. what a great ,happy story.thanks for sharing it with us.

That%26#39;s going to be me one day, I hope my daughter is as good to me as you are to yours.

Congrats on leaving with smiles on your faces.

Aw that%26#39;s such a sweet story. I%26#39;m glad you both had such a great time. (I suspect you may have had an even better time watching her win than she did winning.)

Thanks, all.....yes I was thrilled that she won and was giggling like a kid watching her watch the meter when it was going up and up. When they came to pay her, the young man and young lady could not have been sweeter to her. Yup, made my day!

What a great post, So happy for your Mom. You sound like a great daughter!!!

That story is PRICELESS and what a wonderfull memory you both will have of that special Borgata day out together !!!!

    Thanks for posting that story

So hard to pick a place to stay...for next weekend! Help!!

    Hi:

My cousin and I are taking a much needed girls weekend - next week - June 5-6. I%26#39;m having a really hard time making a decision. So far I tried several places - but what I have is:

    1. The Grand Hotel

    2. La Mer

    3. Sea Crest

La Mer is the most expensive - and to be honest funds are very low right now.

What we want are the following things in an accommodation:

    1. Pool

    2. Walkable to restaurants and other sightseeing

    3. Walkable to beach - prefer beach front

I feel like I%26#39;m asking too much. Can anyone point me in the right direction?? She has left the decision up to me (no pressure!!!)

Thanks for any suggestions. Oh...and not gross. I can camp with my kids...but she isn%26#39;t too into bugs and mold etc.......

    Thanks!

    Bretany

So hard to pick a place to stay...for next weekend! Help!!

For what your choices listed, The Grand is the place for you. Indoor pool and hot tub, outdoor pool, onsite restaurant and walking distance to the center of town. It%26#39;s beachfront with gorgeous views too.

Sea Crest is nice, but it offers much less than the Grand. La Mer is very nice too, but it is not really walking distance to anything (over a mile to center of town).

Have you checked out the Atlas or Montreal Inn. If funds are a concern, you could also check out the Victorian Motel. It%26#39;s 2 blocks to the beach and directly across the street from the pedestrian mall. The prices are much less than oceanfront and there is a huge pool.

    Have a nice weekend!

So hard to pick a place to stay...for next weekend! Help!!

    Bretany,

Thanks to Ben for the mention of The Victorian Motel, but we are already full next weekend.

I did some checking and The Camelot Motel on Howard Street has some availability. They are across the street from the beach. They are only a few short blocks from Cabanas and the top of the Washington Street Mall area.

Hope this helps make choosing a little area.

    John

Thank you so much for all your advice. I went with the Montreal Inn - Thank you Ben. I%26#39;m really looking forward to it!

Montreal Inn is nice and the Hirsch family that owns it is very involved and customer-oriented. Just good people who care a lot about Cape May and work hard to take care of their guests.

I especially enjoy the outdoor hot tub/jacuzzi and the main pool. Both are top-knotch! Incidentally, Andrea and I spent a week in their Millenium Suite after our wedding in Sept 07. They treated us really well and the views were spectacular.

    Full pay VP

Thought I would up share what I found or didn%26#39;t find on a recent trip (5/8-9). Stayed at Caesars and found the full pay bank of five $1 machines. Relatively easy to get on even on Friday and Sat night. I took a beating but DW won $800 for 4A with a 2/3/4 playing 2 credit DDB. We were unable to find the full pay quarter machines vpfree said were by the racebook. There are literally hundreds of machines most of which we checked ranging from 8/6 to 6/5.

Went to Harrah%26#39;s and finally located the triangle of 3 full pay quarter machines. I was able to secure a seat almost immediately. I had no luck, but the guy next to me playing at lightning speed got his royal ($1000) after I was there about 30 minutes.

The B-Bar at Borgata still has the quarters on one side and dollars on the other side- very busy. I did not reconnoiter the floor for the quarter machines.

    Full pay VP

Interesting--I always have a hard time getting a seat at those 5 machines at Caesars except mornings.

On the other hand the full pay $1 at the Taj[smoking section right off the lobby]seem to be almost always available

    Full pay VP

The Borg had 2 rows plus about 4 other full play VP machines near the buffet towards the Music Box. The Taj also had some full pay $1 and up in the “Sultan’s” section. Does anyone know if the Taj still has any 25 cent full play?

Also at the Borg, there are a few multi-game / multi-denom machines just outside the B-Bar that say either ';joker poker'; or ';joker%26#39;s wild'; on the placard, where the JoB is 9/6. Didn%26#39;t check any of the other games, tho.

I know this b/c I was there last Saturday for the Joel McHale show ;)

The two full pay caesars .25 uprights are the last(or first) two in the row along the wall. They are close to a security phone too.

When exiting the racebook make a left, walk straight, the row will be directly in front of you.

Another two of the machines in this row have/had 9/7 DB if that interests you.

On a friday/saturday the caesars $1/2/5 MD machines can be very tough to get on. Even weekday afternoons find these machines filled.

Harrahs 3 machine triangle (And Harrahs VP) is a joke. What you see here is often a combination of the following

-Some guy quartering to death the machine on 6/5 BP

-Some lady playing the same Joker Poker she can find anywhere else

-One or more of the machines shut down

It must be very frustrating, driving a few hours to encounter any of the above scenarios. What options do you have , Play the one of the $5 Diamond cove machines @ 1 coin??

Or just go to Borgata.... Including the B-Bar there has got to be at least 50 9/6 JOB machines with Denoms ranging from .25 - $25 on the floor.

Even on the busiest saturday night you can find a machine with the denom of your choice.

    Laptop in safe at Borgata?

I%26#39;m not remembering if safes in the Borgata rooms would be large enuf for a laptop (13';).......can anyone help? Going down for bday next weekend and wanted to bring it...Thanks.

    Laptop in safe at Borgata?

I haven%26#39;t stayed in the Water Club tower yet but the safes in the orignal tower ould not hold a laptop.

    Laptop in safe at Borgata?

thanks Jerry.i%26#39;m staying in Borgata tower......maybe i%26#39;ll try to get into Water Club.has it been busier lately there, havent been in since March! Thats when they were starting to close down the Water club mid week!

I%26#39;m going down tomorrow for two nights and have a 13'; MacBook. If you stick it in upright, it might fit. I%26#39;ll try and let you know!

The safes are very small in the regular tower so not sure you will get any thing much at all in them altho i have smaller purse and I stick our stuff in it and get it into the safe when we go to the pool so just maybe it will fit standing up if it is not to tall.

The safes in the water club are bigger if I recall and think a lap top would fit in there.

I%26#39;ve been bringing my laptops to AC casinos for years and have never had a problem leaving it on the table in the room - of course, mine look scuffed up and old a week after I get them. Unless you have important documents or work on there that you can%26#39;t backup or government secrets, I wouldn%26#39;t worry about leaving the laptop in the room. If you%26#39;re worried, you might want to hide it in your suitcase when you%26#39;re out of the room.

    Sue

I%26#39;m with Venusuz on this one. My sister, DH and I all take our laptops and never really worry about them. Sis does ';meetings'; all the time with all that requisite gear, and she never tries to hide anything.

I%26#39;ve never sat in the ';Living Room'; without 4 or 5 other folks tapping away. There%26#39;s probably a laptop inside 70% of the rooms at the Borgata on most weekend nights, I am sorry to say. Wish they%26#39;d bring a nice book to read . . . LOL

Hope you have a GREAT birthday celebration at the Borgata !

I do carry a laptop to AC and since it doesn%26#39;t fit in the safe at Trump I just put it in the case and it fits back in the suitcase or at times it has been left in the TV cabinet on the safe.

    No problems as of yet.

    Good Luck!

    Thanks CenPenTraveller......!!!

Venussuz and FineMind....you%26#39;re right...always see people in LivingRoom w/laptops.....guess I shouldn%26#39;t worry....I know business travellers have to have w/them all the time....maybe a lock on my suitcase would make me more at ease! Thanks again!

I just arrived at the Borg and was able to stick mine in the safe. But yeah I usually just stick it back in my bag and have no problems. I counted 4 people in the LR on laptops, so the housekeepers would have plenty of choice if they want to take one!

Thin Crust Pizza in Middlesex County

We%26#39;ve had great thin crust pizza at Sciortino%26#39;s Harbor Lights in South Amboy, and Federicci%26#39;s in Freehold, but haven%26#39;t had much luck closer to home. Can anyone recommend thin crust pizza closer to East Brunswick?

Thin Crust Pizza in Middlesex County

I like Cranbury Pizza in downtown Cranbury. I used to work near there.

I also like Villa Pizza in downtown Milltown but don%26#39;t care for the folks.

If you find any others please let me know.

Thin Crust Pizza in Middlesex County

I would second Cranbury Pizza; it%26#39;s really good. Not in Middlesex County, but my mom loves Pete and Elda%26#39;s in Neptune (I believe). Also, the Squan Tavern in downtown Manasquan make a bood thin crust pizza.

You should post your request on nj.com on the restaurants or munchmobile forum. Thin crust pizza was a topic a few months ago, and I am sure people would weigh in on their favorites. There are very opinionated people over there, so you are sure to get some feedback!

I found that the best thin crust pizza around is from Nancy%26#39;s Towne House Restaurant on Main St. in downtown Rahway. It%26#39;s a pretty small place and gets very busy on the weekends so you may have to wait a bit but it is worth it. The pizza is amazing and is paper thin. Yummy!

I found their address and number online for you.

    1453 Main St.

    Rahway

    (732) 388-8100

    Enjoy!

    Hey, broadwaynyc,

    Thanks for your recommendations.

I can%26#39;t find Villa Pizza in downtown Milltown in the phone book. Maybe they%26#39;re under new ownership. Can you give me any cross streets that are nearby, or any nearby business so I can locate the place?

It sounds like just the area I%26#39;m looking for!

sorry, that should be Bella Pizza

Could the place you%26#39;re talking about be La Bella Pizza, on Livingston Ave. in North Brunswick?

No, this pizza place is in downtown Milltown at 23 N Main Street next to Dunkin Donuts.

Bella Villa Pizza is the name. Sorry about that.

Bella Villa in Milltown NJ is at 23 North Main St. 732-214-9222 I live a block away and it%26#39;s great ! If you want thin crust order their Bar Pie it comes large only and is thin crust . Goes for about $10.00

Room Service: How Late and Comps?

A couple of questions. I will be staying at Bally%26#39;s in a comped room during the week. Does anyhow know late one can order room service?

Also, I am not LFB or RFB, so I want to pay with my TR comps. How would I do that? Can I also pay the room taxes with comps?

    Thanks in advance.

Room Service: How Late and Comps?

Room service is 24/7, you can charge it to your room and upon check out you can ask them to use your comps to pay for it and no you can%26#39;t pay the taxes with comps.

    6ix Menu

What are the $7.77 specials at 6IX and are they available 24 hours. Specifically is the breakfast one available at night? Thanks.

    6ix Menu

We ate at 6ix 2 weeks ago for the first time and we were annoyed about those specials. They make it sound like there is a bunch of them but there are only 3 - 1 breakfast, 1 lunch, 1 dinner. We were there for lunch and my wife ordered the dinner special. The waitress came back and said it was only available after 4pm (seems like something she should have already known).

They do serve breakfast 24/7 so I%26#39;m not sure if the breakfast special is available all day. Seems like it should be, but it also seems like the lunch and dinner special should be as well.

    Green Machine

Has anybody ever played this slot? I have heard mixed reviews on it.

    Green Machine

I%26#39;ve played it twice - first time I won $56 on four $5 bets, second time I busted, losing 17 of the same $20. If I remember it right from Strictly Slots, payout on these averages from 82 to 99%. Pretty much guaranteed they%26#39;re at the lowest legal setting for AC casinos.

    Green Machine

The Casino hubby and I go to all the time in N.Y. Seneca Allegany, have the green Machine. We have had very good luck on it. Winning 1000.00 2 times and another taking 700.00 out of it. Also daughter and husband have won 2 times 1000.00. We always play 5.00 at a time cause if you don%26#39;t you will see what you could have won. we only saw them in Caesars while in A.C. Had no luck at all. But we enjoy the game!!!!!!!!!!!

I%26#39;ve played it. Won and lost. I don%26#39;t really like it and haven%26#39;t played in my last few visits. I%26#39;ve found more fun games for the money.

I also noticed that these machines are almost always empty. I stay away from games that I don%26#39;t see other people play. Just superstition.

FWIW, I%26#39;ve never heard anyone say anything good about this game.

    TC

I played it at Saratoga racino last night. It didn%26#39;t do very well for me.

    Bill

what is the green machine, is it the one that has the dollar bills as symbols, and $1.00 a spin or more,

It%26#39;s like an ATM, but the exact opposite. Insert money and take out your card when you%26#39;re done.

I%26#39;ve never seen anyone win anything of substantial value on any of these machines, and I%26#39;ve fed many hundreds through them. If you see me sitting at one, there%26#39;s a good chance I%26#39;m really drunk.

    your advise please

I will be in Morristown from 12 - 19 Jun 2009 and I%26#39;ll rent a car during that time. I%26#39;m planning to go daily to Manhattan after i finish my business in morris. actually I%26#39;m planning to drive my car till the tunnel then park it somewhere and go by public transportation to Manhattan. when i finish from Manhattan, i%26#39;ll return back using the public transportation to my car.

but since this first time in new jersey, i don%26#39;t know where is the best place to park my car in.

    please advise me...

    your advise please

Parking for public transportation into Manhattan gets filled very early Monday through Friday.

    Many parking lots require permits.

For Morristown, I%26#39;d suggest taking the NJ Transit train into Manhattan.

    your advise please

There is a New Park and Ride at Secacus Junction that opens tomorow off exit 15X on the Turnpike. Morristown has a train station right in town that would be you best bet. New Jersey also has alot to offer as well. Here are a few links.

    www.njtransit.com

    www.visitnj.org

    I really appreciate your reply...

actually I%26#39;ll leave late from Manhattan (around 11:00 PM), so I%26#39;m afraid that not train to Morris at that time.

so I would like to park my car somewhere in Hoboken near to Holland tunnel. from there I can go to/back easily.

your advice please if you know a parking there.

    again thanks for your reply...

    Best place for steamed lobster?

Have not been to Wildwood/Cape May in years and would like to find a place for a steamed lobster dinner (2+ pounds, not those little ones). Any suggestions for the best restaurants for this? Alternatively, is there a seafood market where I could buy lobsters and have them steamed there, and bring them home to eat? Thanks!

    Best place for steamed lobster?

Not in the Crest, but I seem to recall (it%26#39;s been awhile for me as well) but Uries on Rio Grande might be a place to try.

The Lobster House in Cape May.

  • TR 5/31 Absecon Lighthouse; Showboat

My wife, daughter and I headed for the shore today. This was not to be a casino visit, though we did end up playing a little. Our main destination was the Absecon Lighthouse.

We have friends who have a condo in Longport and we had arranged to meet up with them and all go to the lighthouse together. We went to their place first and chatted a bit, waiting for the clouds to clear, which they did. Then around noon, we headed for the lighthouse. For those not familiar with it, it is on Rhode Island Ave., a couple of blocks from Showboat.

Admission is $7/person but I had printed a coupon from their website to get $1 off each person. So we paid our money and hit the stairs. The lighthouse has 228 of them. It is billed as the 3rd tallest lighthouse in the US.

The climb to the top is nice. There are 6 landings with windows along the way with some old photos and info. At the top, there is a staff person giving info about the lighthouse and handing out a card to document your climb. The view was terrific, especially looking north toward Brigantine. Looking south, you see lots of buildings but can%26#39;t really see the shore. It must have been much nicer decades ago before all the towers were built.

After the lighthouse, we drove over and parked at Showboat. We went out on the Boardwalk and walked up past Resorts before stopping for lunch at some greasy pizza place. The 3 of us would have preferred to eat at one of the casino hotels but our friends wanted something cheaper, though I%26#39;m not sure it ended up any cheaper. We would have had a much better meal at a casino restaurant.

The kids wanted to go to ItSugar at The Pier. My wife and the other woman decided to head back and play at Showboat a little. The guy doesn%26#39;t gamble and offered to take the kids to the Pier, so they went their way and we headed back toward the casino.

We stopped at Resorts because my cousin owns Caprice, the giftware store there. We like to visit him when we%26#39;re in town.

At Showboat, I walked around for a while seeing where everything was because we don%26#39;t usually play there. I finally got a seat at a $15 BJ table and played for about an hour before leaving down $52.50 which wasn%26#39;t too bad. I hadn%26#39;t expected to play at all today.

We drove our friends back to their condo and then headed for home. Another nice trip. A beautiful day weather-wise. And a neat experience climbing the lighthouse. If you haven%26#39;t done that, I%26#39;d highly recommend it.

    TR 5/31 Absecon Lighthouse; Showboat

Nice report and interestingly enough it is on our agenda to climb the lighthouse next Monday, June 8.

Now that you have described it, I can%26#39;t wait.

Glad you had a good time with your pals and shared the lighthouse.

    TR 5/31 Absecon Lighthouse; Showboat

Thanks for the nice report. Did you have a camera when you climbed the Lighthouse? It seems like you have a nice clear day for pictures.

sounds like you had a really nice day..never did the lighthouse but have now added it to my list of things I need to do at some point...

easydave, yes I did have my camera. I took a bunch of photos but didn%26#39;t download them to the computer yet. When I do, I%26#39;ll post a few to my webshots page and post a link here. It was a beautiful day with great visibility.

    objective review of Wildwood?

    hi there,

my friend and i are considering spending some days at Wildwood this summer (i live in Colorado, she in NYC). we found an affordable place, in Wildwood Crest, i think, and just want to hang at the beach. I really do NOT know wildwood at all...Can someone tell me: Is it a nice place? Nice beach? Not too insanely touristy (we%26#39;d be there before schools let out)?

    Thanks for any info/advice!! :)

    objective review of Wildwood?

Wildwood Crest is fairly quiet, with nice restaurants. The Beach is very wide, so their is plenty of room. The water tempeture in June is a little chilly, as it has not had a chance to warm up yet. The air tempeture, will be the high 70%26#39;s to low 80%26#39;s depending on what period in june you go.. We usually go the second or third weekend in june. The 13th of june has the american legion parade, and the next weekend is the VFW. Besides Wildwood, Cape May is very nice with small shops and nice restaurants also. The Boardwalk is where the touristy part comes in, where there are numerous tee-shirt shops and amusement parks. Staying at the Crest, is the right choice for relaxing on the beach.

SOme things I noticed this week at AC

First night was at Showboat. First when we checked in, they asked for my companion. I said what? I have no companion. My friend was with me, but she has never been to AC before. They said well when you made the reservation online you put a companion. I said well, yes, that has been there for years, its the person I come with the most often. The lady continued t inform me that I could not check in without my companion there. Of course I called for a Supervisor. She was very nice and said yes, rules have changed and if there is a companion listed, both must be there with ID. She told me to change it online in my TR account so no companion comes up unless they are actually going to be there. She did let me check in. I was LFB. Charged everything back to the room as usual. When I go to check out the next night, tons of charges on the room. All of the bar tabs were picked up, but the food was there. I only went to the mansion cafe and that little sandwich cafe place. I called down to speak to a host and was told that I need to call my junket host. I explained that I was not on a junket, I was there alone. This man with such a heavy accent was so rude to me and said he could not help me. I walked down to the front desk and asked again for a supervisor. They called a host and said it was some kind of computer glitch and it shouldnt have happened.

Next night was at Caesars. LFB again. Checked into the Centurion tower and spent most of the day at the beach and the pool. It was great. Yes the pool is tiny, but I do love the fact that there is an adult only sun deck with some nice music playing and drinks flowing. Dinner that night at Mias was outstanding as usual. There is nothing bad that I can say about it. After Mias we played some slots, tried to play rapid roulette but it was packed, and ending up losing alot of money waiting! Next morning, ready to check out, look at the bill and yet again charges. Everything was picked up except our bill at Ballys beach bar. I call downstairs and was told that Caesars will not pay Ballys Beach Bar. I explained that every other bar that we went to at Ballys was picked up, no one listened. Again, went downstairs, asked for Supervisor and it was corrected right away.

Next 2 nights were at Ballys. LFB still. We continued to use the beach and Caesars pool. Ate at several of the non gourmet places at Ballys and Caesars. I kept checking the bill every time I was in the room and no charges so that made me happy. The first night I lost alot and it put me in a cranky mood, so we decided to go and try Borgata. I had a great dinner in and amphora lounge. Then we attempted to play Craps. I had the best time. We played for about 3 hours at the same table and made alot of money. I think I am hooked! This morning we played a little at Ballys. And of course before check out I had to go and see my favorite game. Its in the Diamond Cove and its called the Golden Dragon. Its a $5 game, so $15 a spin, but I just love the bonus. Well, I got the bonus twice this morning and got two hand pays. I was very excited to say the least. I decided to try my luck at the $5 wheel of fortune right as we left and I got a spin on my last credits and got $1199, so no taxes! Whooo hoo.

All in all, it was a great trip.Great weather, good times. I just wonder why Showboat and Caesars gaveme such issues with charging things back to the room and at Ballys I have never had a problem. Anyone else notice this??

SOme things I noticed this week at AC

Thanks for posting and good for you to keep challenging those charges. Sounds like you got so lucky at the end of the trip.

SOme things I noticed this week at AC

Good going on the hand pays!!

As for the issues with the people at Showboat/Caesars.

Unfortunately, they sometimes show up on the room charge, it could be the way it was entered into the system. The people who give these answers simply don%26#39;t know the answers and rather then check with a supervisor or host, they tell you what they perceive what the correct answers are.

Usually when you get the person with a brain in their head, the charges come off, but not without a little stress.

As for the nasty man with a heavy accent at Showboat, well, I will not make any comments about that, I have nothing nice to say about people like that and I was taught that if I have nothing nice to say, don%26#39;t say anything at all (I don%26#39;t always do this tho)

    Bill

Glad you had such a good time. I thought LFB topped out at $200????

As for being able to get a room without one of the people on the original reservation, I think it%26#39;s policy that you are expected to have that person with you.

I know I can%26#39;t get a weekend comp without my sister and she can%26#39;t (usually) get one without me during high season, and we are both Diamond.

Glad you got to bypass that rule, but you probably play at a higher level:)

Sounds as though you are your own best advocate. Way to go!

Since when is Mia covered under LFB?

    its not

    Bill

Sounds like you had a nice trip.. lucky hit right at the end-love when that happens-know you%26#39;ll take money home! Little stressful with those charges but sounds like you handled them and had them taken care of right away! I always thought everyone in your party had to be at the check-in to get their own key.

Mia is not covered under LFB. But I called my Host ahead of time and she sent over a comp to cover me.

I think since they started listing those junkets on the het page it has been screwing them up some. my tr page is doing something just the opposite of yours. you were not on a junket, well i am and junkets are not supposed to show up on your booked trips, mine does. out of concern that they had me booked as driving in ive called the direct casino marketing dept and have been told recently things have been showing up pretty weird on the tr pages.

The funny thing is that my junket doesnt even show up on the HET page. But I think that is because they fly every day except Mondays.

    Condo Rental Help

    Hi Everyone,

We visited OCNJ last year %26amp; we loved it %26amp; are planning on coming back this summer.

Last year we stayed at a hotel but we are thinking of staying a week at a condo this year. Last year we stayed at Ocean 7 %26amp; it was ok (the location was perfect) but the room was so small that stuff was piled everywhere :(

A few questions on condo rentals.....

How do you get the keys, are they mailed to you or do you go somewhere in town to pick them up, also, when you leave what do you do with the keys?

What do you need to bring that you wouldn%26#39;t normally need at a hotel? Sheets, towels?

Do you need to clean it before you leave?

Any condos have nice pools? (I know most of them have no pool in OC)

Any suggestions on where to stay? We would prefer not to have to cross any major streets to get to the beach. It will be me %26amp; my wife and our two girls ages 3 and 6.

    Thanks everyone.

    Condo Rental Help

I think you will love staying in a condo and will really feel like you are a part of OC that way.

You can ether rent directly from an owner through a site like Shore Summer Rentals(http://www.shoresummerrentals.com) or from a real estate firm like Fox (http://www.foxocnj.com/). If you rent from a real estate, then at about 2PM on the first Saturday of the rental you go to the local office and pick up the keys and drop them off again when your rental is over @ 10AM the following Saturday. If you rent directly from an owner some may just have you go to the condo and you will find it open with the keys on the kitchen table. What we do with our direct rentals is mail the keys to the renters about 2 weeks before their rental starts and then include a postage paid return mailer and ask that they drop the keys at the post office on the way out of town.

As to cleaning...we always cleaned up any mess we%26#39;d made before we left, but most places will have cleaning figured in between rentals to hit the bathrooms and the kitchens and the like.

As to what to bring, every rental is different but the basics, sheets, towels and the like are pretty standard. You will need to check the rental as to things like specific pots and pans, CD players or the like, other kitchen equipment and of course things you may want like special pillows, etc. Some rentals include beach items or even bikes to use, so check this out when you are looking for a rental. Don%26#39;t be afraid to open cabinets and closets and see what is included.

Most ';house'; type condo rentals will not have pools but there are a few apartment condo rentals that may have use of a pool.

We love the North End of town and think it is a great location. Easy access to the boardwalk and town center without driving. We also rented for a number of years in the deep south end of own (50th street) and loved that too. Each area of Ocean City has different things and I%26#39;d suggest you decide on what is best for you. If you liked the Ocean 7 location then you might look from say 7th street to 1st Street in the North End say from Atlantic to the Boardwalk. That will give you easy beach and boardwalk access (Wonderland pier is at 6th street and although the boardwalk runs till 1st street, that is the end of the commercial part of the boardwalk)and the beach will be just a couple of minute walk away from your rental.

Whatever you decide, have a great vacation but also act fast...most good rentals for the prime weeks are gone already!

    Condo Rental Help

You could also check out www.vrbo and www.homeaway.com for more ';by owner'; sites.

It is common at the Jersey shore to not have sheets/towels provided, but ask. Sometimes there are linen rental that you can arrange as well.

Key procedure will also vary by owner and should be spelled out prior to arrival. (I tell where to find the key to let themselves in, and ask that doors be locked and keys left on kitchen counter at check out).

Cleaning procedure varies from %26#39;Leave it as you found it'; i.e. fully clean to ';broom clean'; i.e. tidied, swept, gargbage out but full clean to be done after check out. Some rentals charge a separate cleaning fee, some do not.

Also ask if there are any beach badges included in the rental. That will help you compare actual costs from unit to unit.

I grew up in Philly so am very familiar with OCNJ. Now that we live in CA, but one daughter lives in NJ, we fly back and rent a 4 bdrm place each summer for a week. So much fun and so much better than a hotel. Lots of room to spread out, plus you can eat bkft and lunch at home at least. Since we have two grandsons under 5, we usually eat dinner at home too, except if we are up at the boardwalk. We pick up the keys at the realtors. We usually stay on either Central (south end) or Wesley around 20th. It%26#39;s great to face right onto the beach but pricey. This summer we have to cross one street to reach the beach. Some places provide sheets but most don%26#39;t. No pool. We tidy up before we leave, but no major cleaning. Go online with the realtors like Grace or Prudential Fox and browse the listings. Good luck!

The website www.oceancitynj.com contains listings for most of the major realtors in OC under one search engine. If you have never rented a condo before in OC, it might be better to go with a realtor. Its been my experience that you don%26#39;t save much (if anything) by using vrbo or the like and this way you can ask the realtor all your questions. The realtor will also be there for you during your stay if anything goes wrong (as it did with us w/ one of our rentals last summer- its rare but it does happen). Most of the major realtor are very knowledgeable about locations and the like. I have seen some listings on the private sites that are very misleading about location (again, some people are very honest too). You might also want to take a day and visit available properties. If the units are unrented (go soon), you can go in and visit the properties and see what would best suit your needs. Even if they are rented, you can check out the street, see if there is construction nearby, evaluate traffic, etc... All realtors are not created equal either. I have found Coastal, Berger, Marr and Gold Coast to be the best and most honest to deal with as a renter. Others may have had different experiences.

As for location, if you want to be near the boardwalk, but not in the heart of the tourist area, I would agree with Frank that the North End would be a good area for you. Good luck.

    I forgot a couple things:

You do need to clean up. I%26#39;m not saying scrub toilets, but wipe everything down, empty the fridge, even run the vacum.

Bring linens, towels, soap, detergent, etc... Pretty much everything. There is usually a couple rolls of toilet paper and a roll of paper towels to get you started. But, generally you will need a couple dish towels, hand towels, dish soap, hand soap, tissues, etc...

If you are willing to rent a condo in a high rise building, a pool is definitely possible. There are several really nice buildings, one at 17th and boardwalk comes to mind. Ask the realtor. There are a few houses with pools but these are usually larger properties.

One more question. Are the posted rates what you will pay for the condo rental or do you have to pay all kinds of extra taxes like you do with a hotel?

    Thanks everyone.

If you are talking about Ocean City, there are no additional taxes you pay. If you rent through a broker you will have to pay some kind of fee to the broker (paperwork or something like that) and either direct rentals or broker rentals will add on a couple of hundred dollar security deposit.

If you are using a rental (real estate) agent and looking at their websites, you will see the fees listed. We%26#39;ve rented from Fox for years and I don%26#39;t think they have an administrative(processing)fee. They have lots of rentals in the area you mentioned. Some like Monihan list it with their fees, where Berger puts it at the top of the page. I would ask to be sure. Seems to be 45 - 50.00. Personally I don%26#39;t like it. The security deposit amount varies, but you get it back unless .... enjoy :)

Just so you know, the owner of the property will pay the agent between 10 and 15% of your rent as a fee for renting the property. That%26#39;s why many owners will give you a price break for renting directly from them.

    Thanks everyone for the help.

I%26#39;ve asked about 2 condos that were marked as available only to have the agent call me back later and tell me that the owner messed up and the condo isn%26#39;t available.

So if any owners on here are looking to rent out their place for the week beginning 7/18 please let me know... family of 4, looking for less than $1k for a week, no more than 1 major street from the ocean.

    Thanks!

When you're not in AC on the weekend, you are . . .?

Just a little fun topic on a Sunday morning. Please join in and share a favorite hobby, a little bit of non-casino YOU.

As for me-- and you already KNOW it will be DEATHLY BORING - -- I am an avid rose gardener. In the bed opposite the dining room I have an English rose growing for each of my six (6!) siblings and one for each of my parents. In the perennial border there are no fewer than fourteen.

All of them are either in or near their first FLUSH. What a sight!

BTW, for the boys: DH has an %26#39;88 Fox body Mustang with a 2000 Cobra engine in the garage . . . :)

    So . . . what%26#39;s your spare time passion?

When you're not in AC on the weekend, you are . . .?

During the summer I work the weekends in a beach resort. Taking our first days off tomorrow to go to AC...very rare having any days off but the beach is slow with tourist so time to sneak off.

Normally we work 7 days a week May - September then take the rest of the year off. Self employeed business owners.

In spare time we work on restoring this old house we decided to buy in the early 90%26#39;s...now this is something I would never do again. And spend time with family.

When you're not in AC on the weekend, you are . . .?

If its a sunny weekend, we%26#39;ll be at the beach in Wildwood Crest... we are beach people and spend as much time as we can there. AC just doesn%26#39;t have the beach they have in Wildwood Crest.

During the non-beach season, we like to do day trips on weekends.. Lancaster County is a favorite place as is Peddlers Village and New Hope...

We also love to travel to our favorite beach destination - Punta Cana and we try to do that twice a year.

Since I work and DH is retired, he has developed a love for cooking and likes to try all kinds of gourmet recipes.. he also is the reason our yard has pretty flower gardens... I am sure he%26#39;d love your rose gardens FineMind.

At the gym in the morning...golfing in the afternoon. At night enjoying the company of friends or family or just a nice dinnr with hubby and me.

    crystal

On a soccer field......or working in the yard.....or at Kings Dominion...or in VEGAS!

When not in AC, I am thinking of AC...But seriously, since we now have an empty nest, I have become a ';bit'; of a workaholic (I am able to telecommute, thus I am always cleaning up some data..). I love my work, so I don%26#39;t consider it a drag, but my loved ones are not too crazy about all the time I send at my home workstation. We also love the beach and have a place out east in Hampton Bays, where we just sit on the beach as much as possible and just relaxed. Spending time with family and friends is our favorite past time (next to going to AC!!), R4W

i%26#39;m a fulltime mom of my 2 year old.

part time rn in the operating room at night.

go to a/c about 4 times a year. as soon as my daughter gets to be about five, i%26#39;ll be waving goodbye to a/c and waving hello to disney. my trips will dwindle to 2 times a year.

i don%26#39;t really have many hobbies (besides gambling). been going to a/c for about 17 years or so.

    melissa

Wow, tough question for me, as we are almost always in AC!

Recently, the weekends that we are not in AC, we are in Saratoga Springs dealing with the builder.

It used to be that we would go to our house in Damascus, PA. but there%26#39;s no time for that.

Now, for the guys. I have a 1978 Knucklehead FLH (completely renovated) and a 1996 Ultra Classic. For the women, those are Harley Davidson motorcycles.

Finemind, I can totally picture you in the garden, those roses must be something else.

    Bill

Thanks for being chauvinists, you two! Bill, I know what a %26#39;78 Knucklehead is - the 25th anniversary special. No, I don%26#39;t work on cars or bikes, but I have a serious appreciation of them. My first love was a 1964 cherry red Mustang Convertible, umm I mean it%26#39;s owner, Sean - but the car didn%26#39;t hurt! Women who grew up around guys (hi Ambrva!) learned a lot about cars and motorcycles, particularly the muscle cars. OK, rant off, lol.

My spare time passions are reading (I have a couple hundred on my laptop), watching old movies (classics like ';Some Like it Hot'; (gotta love that last line!) or ';Roman Holiday';, traveling to weekend long drunkfests with ';smart'; people called Mensa regional gatherings, or playing NTN trivia with my local friends at a bar in town.

    Sue

Party animal that i am, i usually spend my weekends working and cleaning the house.

Seriously though, in my spare time i love to cook and try out new recipes using my friends as guinea pigs. I also love to travel and plan to take a language class this fall in preparation for a trip to Greece next year.

When I%26#39;m not in AC I%26#39;m home counting my money :)

Seriously, I%26#39;m a single homeowner. I%26#39;m always painting or fixing something. I%26#39;ve finished remodels on my kitchen, bath, bedroom, office, LR %26amp; I%26#39;m about to tackle the dining room %26amp; the front porch. Whatever project I%26#39;m involved in HGTV or the Food Network is on in the background. Next weekends project is detail the car, so I guess I%26#39;ll have music on instead...

I also love to cook and entertain, and FineMind, I too grow roses %26amp; mine are in first blush too!! I can%26#39;t wait for the buds to bloom!

This was a fun question thanks for posting it!

Holiday inn Express VS Hampton Inn

I AM going to get Springsteen tickets for the last GS show (thinking positive..)..and am torn between these two hotels

Hampton is less expensive and it seems we could actually walk to the show.If not, they shuttle you in!.Dinner before is not a big deal, we might head into the city for an early something or other but we would DEF be looking for drinks afterward. IS there a bar within stumbling distance? Also, not a member of any Hampton rewards program, so no points would be earned..I am an unapologetic point/miles wh*re!..:)

Holiday Inn Express is a bit more $$, negligible really..I would get points..it is also within walking distance ,according to other tripadvisors. The MAIN reason I would consider this over the Hampton, tho, is because it appears there is a bar next door that stays open late.

I would rather stay at the Hampton Inn,but will have to book the Holiday Inn Express, if there%26#39;s no bar close to the Hampton. Is anyone very familiar with this area?

Holiday inn Express VS Hampton Inn

    Got my tickets! YAY!!

No interest in staying in Harmon Meadows, thanks.Just booked HI Express so I ,at least, have a room.

The Holiday Inn Express is a good choice. I have stayed at the hampton in for Steeler games at Giants stadium before. The walk is verry easy. The Holiday Inn is also walkable if you feel up to it. Enjoy the Boss. I saw him at the Spectrum about a month ago.

I%26#39;ve seen him a few times but I think this one will be special..:)

Hey, as long as I can wet my whistle, when we get back to the hotel, I can walk anywhere..lol

    Thanks, all

    No problem. Enjoy.

  • How much security would you go for?

Considering the recent posts about the shooting and lack of security I was wondering what would you be willing to put up with to have a secure casino floor?

Lets say there was only 1 or 2 ways to get on the floor or into their building and you had to go through a metal detector and show Identification that would be recorded, but this caused a line and you had to wait some like at an airport to get inside but at least now you would be safer. Would you be willing to put up with this. How long would you be willing to wait in line? Would you rather have it free and open access like now or do you have other ideas.

How much security would you go for?

I would not put up with that.

I don%26#39;t think anything short of draconian security would have prevented this episode.

I do wish there was a little more trouble taken to keep panhandlers and obvious undesireables out. But 20 security guards at the entrance would not keep out this guy unless there was a metal detector.

How much security would you go for?

I%26#39;ll be the last one to complain about too much security as I work in a building which is in almost permanent lock down: one entrance, secure reception area and cameras EVERYWHERE. You can get fired for using any entrance except the main entrance during working hours. It would not bother me one iota to ';check in.'; I%26#39;m used to it.

That said, anyone who really wanted to get inside (our building) to do some damage with a gun could probably figure out a way of doing so, especially if he/she didn%26#39;t care about being caught.

Just because you don%26#39;t ';see'; security doesn%26#39;t necessarily mean it isn%26#39;t around. I know for a fact that a local casino employs two plainclothes state policemen around the clock, and they rotate through the cameras and floor patrol.

I guess my point is that the incident at the Taj would have PROBABLY happened regardless because the gunman would have found some way of bypassing security, JMHO

There%26#39;s always a first for everything. Even with this shooting, I don%26#39;t believe we%26#39;ve had a customer shot and killed on a casino floor yet in Atlantic City. Here in Baltimore, we can%26#39;t even say ';no shooting deaths on city streets yet this year'; once daybreak hits on January 1st.

In the grand scheme of things the casino floors are probably some of the safest places on earth. It really irks me when politicians or ';officials'; try to impose restrictions in similar cases because of one incident. I wouldn%26#39;t be in favor of a metal detector or ';checking in'; even if they averaged a customer shooting death a year. Of course that%26#39;s not to say I think we should be lax and not enforce obvious measures that protect people, but most of the fixes can be accomplished without even bothering the patrons.

I too feel this tradegy would not have been avoiided with added security. Anyone who is on a mission for this sort of thing will find a way around any secuity system. The added security would be for the peace of mind of the casino patrons. I think people would feel safer if there was a security presence on the floor and around the casino, especially to keep out panhandlers.

This was not a panhandler who did this, he was a frequent casino patron. I think it all comes down to us knowing there is someone we could go to when we have a problem or feel unsafe. We need to feel that the casinos place the safety of their patrons high on their list.

I also dont think they need to go that far. I think the general mood here is this. we just want to see security more visable. someone at the entrance, some wandering the floor and definetly someone at the elevators? we all know security is in the building but just not as visable.

goes back to our younger days when in the city you had foot police, they walked the neighborhood, they knew the people and just being out there and seen kept crime down

My security concerns have nothing to do with this shooting which was an aberration. My concern is theft, panhandling and unsavory folks wandering the casinos. There is no need for what you described nor is that the only alternative to what is in place now. We%26#39;ve been going a lot longer than a lot of you folks and just a return to visible security who would just be a presence on the casino perimeter would be a huge improvement.

There is a need for it now because without it folks just keep pushing the envelope. Lets face it, if there is a police presence on the Garden State Parkway everyone drives better. I think if you see security on and around the casino and the hotel then folks would act accordingly. Some nut like this guy would not be prevented but panhandling would end if they were shown the door and theft would end if those folks knew that security was both watching and close to apprehend them! That%26#39;s all I think is needed...not the equivalent of getting into s secure facility!

My last several visits I haven%26#39;t been carded, at all. This is mainly due to nobody being there to do such a thing. The CW haven%26#39;t carded me either, and I%26#39;m being served alcoholic beverages without question. I%26#39;m perfectly legal to do so, but this means that anyone else with a questionable age can do so as well.

very well written answer frank. thats why im a copyguy and not a writing guy. your answer was what i had in mind but didnt exactly transfer it as well as you did.

I%26#39;ve never seen panhandling in the casino.

I was at the Hilton Sunday night and security keep that older dancing guy than works the Boardwalk, usually in front of convention center, out of the casino.

I would not show ID in order to enter a casino if it was to be recorded.

Harrahs New Orleans has a single line entrance where each customer has to pass a security guard at any entrance; the hotel rooms are not connected to the casino so it is easier to set up. I did not mind it at all, also no bells or whistles for any jackpots to keep undesirables away. It ran smooth even on weekends. While the recent incident is a hopefully scrarce occurence, I feel increasing overall security would make us all a bit more relaxed. The tito vultures and panhandlers are not what I want to endure when I%26#39;m spending my money.

    Can't decide! Please help!

Me, my husband and our son he is 11 are trying to decide between wildwood crest and ocean city maryland. We are not much for major caos and teenagers. Can anyone please advise us on how they compare and pros and cons of both. Also as far as hotels we are looking at the pan american and the port royal. Any thoughts on them? The reviews are good and their websites make the hotels look wonderful. Thanks so much!! Angelina

    Can't decide! Please help!

Both of the properties, in the %26#39;The Wildwoods%26#39;, you%26#39;re looking at are own by the Morey%26#39;s, you should be happy with either. The Pan Am is about 10 blocks south of the Port Royal, both in very family oriented Wildwood Crest.

    Can't decide! Please help!

Absolutely - Wildwood Crest!!!!! I live in Maryland, love steamed crabs - but never go to Ocean City, Maryland. The beach is pitifully small, too many teenagers, very noisy at night on the main street (rte 50). The boardwalk only has one end of amusements. Wildwood has 4 amusement piers along its 3 mile boardwalk, two piers have large waterparks right on the beach. The beach at Wildwood is absolutely the widest, cleanest and safest beach in the northeast u.s. I have been going to Wildwood for 45 years. We always took our two daughters there every year. My husband and I are going this Friday, 6/5 thru Monday, 6/8.

Please give Wildwood a try - you won%26#39;t be disappointed.

    Avondale By The Sea ?

Has any one stayed in a suite room and is good with young child 16 months looking for a place to easy walk things to beach also thinking of Summer Station thanks

    Avondale By The Sea ?

I%26#39;ve never stayed at Avondale personally, so I can%26#39;t speak about that. I can tell you that Summer Station is a fantastic place and that nearly every condo in the building boasts incredible views of the ocean.

Summer Station%26#39;s condos are much larger than most condos or %26#39;suites%26#39;, offering one or two bedrooms, many have balconies (they installed special plexiglass barriers to prevent small children from falling). Summer Station condos include a full kitchen with granite counter tops, complete with a full-size stove, oven, microwave, full-size refrigerator and even a dishwasher.

Both places you mention are oceanfront and only a short walk across the street to get to the beach. They are also both close to the center of Cape May, another short walk to Washington Street%26#39;s pedestrian mall.

Interestingly enough, I%26#39;m staying at Summer Station in a couple days. I will be in town to make some arrangements for my book release next month and since my kids will be with me, I opted to avoid the B%26amp;B scene. I%26#39;ve stayed at many different hotels in the city over the years and Summer Station is one of my favorites.

    Avondale By The Sea ?

We stayed at the Avondale for the first 4 years that we came to Cape May. The location is perfect. Everything is easy walking distance, light breakfast is served, and there is a pool. Suite Room is fine for a couple and child. It has changed ownership recently, but it appears to be a great place still. Have fun.

    Hello-

The Avondale is a great place to stay. It is run by Charlie and his wife who do a great job. In fact we ';share'; a great number of regulars who frequent both of our places.

I would not hesitate to reccommend the Avondale.

Thanks for the info, I have been to Cape May a few times so I know the the location is excellent

    John,

    The Victorian Motel

We just returned from our annual Avondale by the Sea stay last Friday (5/22/09) - we%26#39;ve stayed in a second floor suite every year we%26#39;ve gone (basically since 1994, give or take two years) and we have no complaint. The door separating the rooms is a vented one - so one can listen for the little one and still have some reasonable degree of privacy.

Charlie is much like Herb Weiner was - always making improvements and he takes good care of his property. I would recommend Avondale without a second thought.

I don%26#39;t think you can go wrong with either one. I have sayed at Summer Station and liked it very much. I would compare rates and then decide.

Six Flags Great Adventure -- Yay or Nay?

We%26#39;re in NYC for a week, our second visit (29 Aug - 5 Sept) We%26#39;re interested in maybe a day trip to Six Flags.

Though is it worth it? -- There seems to be some mixed reviews, about the park. We mainly just want to do the big thrill rides; Nitro, Superman, Bizarro, Batman, Great American Scream Machine, Rolling Thunder, El Toro and the new Kingda Ka.

Will we be able to do all the 13 coasters in a day? Will we need the express pass?

What about the Safari Park...worth a trip? I see it has tigers and dolphins -- which I love!

Six Flags Great Adventure -- Yay or Nay?

If you go on rainy day you will be able to do all the rides. I was not that wild about the safari park.

    www.sixflags.com

Six Flags Great Adventure -- Yay or Nay?

You will need express pass to do anything during the summer. The lines can be really, really long. My main complain with GA is the lack of security. Last time there, which is several years now, there were just gangs of kids running rampant, cutting the lines, and basically doing whatever they wanted. It was a real turnoff.

    Giants Stadium seating

In my quest to get Spingsteen, I have two options..My daughter will take which ever ones I don%26#39;t want

Which are better seats? Section 222 in the 4th row..or Section 129 in the 35th row..

Hotel in NJ with access to New York

I麓m planning to visit New York for 3 days at the end of this month. After searching hotel prices on internet I realized that it麓s almost impossible to get a room with a reasonable price at NY. As I will arrive and depart from EWR, I search for hotels in NJ and found very good prices.

I would like to know if it麓s a good idea to stay in Newark or Jersey Island and go ro NY by train or subway. After read the hotel info麓s they told that they have easy access to the subway stations that takes me to NY.

Which hotels near to EWR (or with airport shuttle) are the best and are closed (or have easy access) to train stations ??? The hotels that offers airport shuttle allowed guests to take the shuttle everyday to get to EWR to take the train to NY ??

I found rates between $70-$89 at Crowne Plaza, Best Western, Holliday Inn, Days Inn and Fairfield Inn Marriot. Which one do you recommend ??

Hotel in NJ with access to New York

By the airport I allways reccomend the Wyndahm. They have an excellent diner that is cheaper than any other hotels, and IMO has better food than the other hotels. Do not stay at the Holiday Inn. The hotel is on Frontage road wich is an issolated road with nothing but the Sheraton, a Continental Employee Parking lot, and North Jersey State Prison. I have not stayed at the Crowne Plaza or the Best Western. As long as you get something on Rt. 1%26amp;9 you would be good. The problem by the airport is that you would have to take the hotel shuttel to P4 to the Monorail to the train station. Or you can take the hotel shuttle to P4 and take the monorail to a terminal and take the 62 bus to Penn Station, and get the train to NY from there. New Jersey also has alot to offer as well. Thanks for your link. I glanced through it and looks like I have everything I need to figure out what is the best hotel for me to stay at on the Jersey side. We are going on a cruise out of Manhatten in September and will be arriving the day befor and had planned on staying a few days after to see the city.

We will have our car and planned on leaving it at the hotel while we were on the cruise in order not to have to pay the $30 per day parking fee at the pier. I wouldn%26#39;t mind paying something, just not $30 a day.

I didn%26#39;t relize that was your site. Not bad.

    Thanks.

  • Trump Taj - Chairman's Tower - Noise from Steel Pier?

First time visitor to Atlantic City and I%26#39;m staying in the Trump Taj%26#39;s Chairman%26#39;s Tower.

Has anyone had problems in their room with NOISE(morning, mid-day, early evening) coming from the Steel Pier amusement park? Will be staying in the room for some afternoons and want to have as much peace and quiet as possible.

Thanks for any insight that you can offer.

Trump Taj - Chairman's Tower - Noise from Steel Pier?

Im not in the room much during the day but the few times I have been there hasnt been any noise. However certain rooms at night you can hear music-not sure if its from the Taj or frm Showboat next door. The rooms are very nice in the chairman tower (and new). Enjoy your trip!

Trump Taj - Chairman's Tower - Noise from Steel Pier?

I was there last Tuesday. I took a nap in the room from like 1pm to 3:30pm and didn%26#39;t hear any noise. Of course I was also dead from staying up all night so its possible they had a marching band perform in my room.

    Liberty Park

I am looking at either The Westin (closer to tunnel) or Hyatt (closer to Liberty Park) in Jersey City. I figured we could take the Holland Tunnel to get to NY but to get to Liberty Park, what do you suggest? Should I pre-purchase tickets for Ellis Island and statue of Liberty tours? Do we take a bus to get to LIberty Park?

My kids are interested in Chinatown, WTC the Liberty Park, other that, I have no idea and we (like you suggested) do not want to overdue it so we are planning lightly.

    Thanks for all your help!

where to find a good map of the boardwalk

Does anyone know of a good link where to find a detailed map of the boardwalk (detailing what stores, pizza shops etc. are at what streets)I%26#39;m not having much luck. We%26#39;ve been to OC tons of times, but don%26#39;t remember exactly what streets things are located on. We%26#39;re thinking of renting a condo at 14th and Boardwalk - anyone know what is on/around the boardwalk there? Thanks!

where to find a good map of the boardwalk

I have allways just gotten on the boardwalk and took it from there never really with a plan. However I did find this link.

    funnewjersey.com/upload_user/NJ_BEACHES_SHOR…

where to find a good map of the boardwalk

Not a map, but this is a link to a listing of what is where in the boardwalk...addresses in the 1400 would be between 14th and 15th streets.....http://www.beachwatchnj.com/ocean_city_boardwalk.htm

We are North End people so I am not that familiar with the area around 14th street but as a landmark the Port O Call hotel is at 15th and Boardwalk and the Ocean City Fishing Club%26#39;s pier is just south of 14th.

    Hope that helps....

Another website that might help is buystoneharbor.com. Scroll down on the right to Ocean City and there are some links, but not the kind of map you%26#39;re looking for. Maybe it doesn%26#39;t exist.....something for the Chamber to consider! You will recognize places on the lists and where they are. We usually rent but have also stayed at The Beach Club Hotel that%26#39;s near 13th, and we go to Bob%26#39;s Grill which is on the boardwalk by 14th. It%26#39;s a nice area -a little more quiet but close to it all!

14th and Boardwalk is a really good area. We rent a house where we enter the boradwalk at 15th. The boardwalk shops end at 14th. There is bob%26#39;s restaurant there and Mallon%26#39;s sticky buns. There is also a bike/surrey rental there (slightly off the boardwalk to the side). There is a Mack and Mancos not far from there and also water ice. The Beach Club restaurant with outdoor seating is a block away. There is also a very nice beach store in that vicinity (within a block) that sells everything from toys to clothes to sundry items. My kids love that store. I%26#39;m going on friday and will be staying at 15th, if you want more details I can post at that time. If you have any specific questions, just ask.

The Boardwalk merchants now have a map and listing of the boardwalk. You should be able to find it at most of the Boardwalk shops. Also I%26#39;ll bet that the Visitor%26#39;s Center has them also. BTW - the Visitor%26#39;s Center has moved and now is on 9th street about a block after you come over the bridge.

Boardwalk maps are available at the Information Desk at the Music Pier.

First time travellers looking for suggestions

We are planning a trip to Atlantic City for the first time and thought we would start here in the forums for suggestions on where to stay.

We will be driving down from Canada. There will be a group of approximately 8 - 10 of us. We%26#39;re hoping to find a reasonably priced hotel without it being a ';dive';.

Anyone who has suggestions on a place they have stayed and enjoyed, we would love to hear about your experience.

    Thanks,

    Kelly

First time travellers looking for suggestions

When are you planning on coming?

First time travellers looking for suggestions

I guess that would have been helpful information to include LOL. We are planning on travelling mid September 2009.

    Thanks,

    Kelly

I trust that the lack of suggestions isn%26#39;t a sign that we should avoid AC? LOL

definetly not a sign to avoid ac.

im no expert but id suggest you read thru alot of the post going back awhile, its a common question and a valed one. things that will help get answers are things such as ...........do you want the boardwalk............are you wanting to gamble......

if you havent played in ac yet you probably wont get any special rates. but there should be plenty of post about nearby hotels. im no help because i go there to gamble and go with my wife,we seldom eat at the better restraunts or do much outside of the casinos, but im pretty certain more info on what your wanting to do when in ac will help or just reading back to older post will help as well

The lack of responses is an indication that most of the people on the board were in AC last weekend. Sorry, weekends get a little slow around here.

Please give more information. Do you want to stay at a casino? What is the age range of your group? What is reasonably prices? Any children with you? Do you like to gamble? Gourmet restaurants?

see i knew someone would come thru. i also thought afterwards about everyone being in ac when you posted the question

if you come down the garden state parkway and exit 40 towards absecon which is about 10 minutes outside a/c there are numerous, clean, reasonably priced, some major chains hotels and motels. i believe someone on the board probably has a link.

Here’s a link to places along route 30, about a 10-15 minute ride to the Boardwalk.

    tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g29734-Absecon_New_Je…

There are also places along route 40, (Black Horse Pike), coming into town from the south side.

Prices should drop a lot after the prime summer season in mid September. Some casinos might also have some special deals by then.

I would check (and keep checking back) with each casino%26#39;s own website, after Labor Day the rates usually drop quite a bit and there are some great midweek deals...Good Luck...

There%26#39;s a banner at the top of this page for Tropicanna for $69 a night. During the summer the rates are usually higher than that. In September, there will probably be rates and special around the same. I%26#39;m sure that is mid week, so if you ar flexible, I%26#39;m sure you can find a good romm at a reasonable price in one of the casinos. Worth a few extra $$ to stay in a casino hotel. Good luck.

    Difference of LFB /RFB

What is the difference, and how does it work? Do you have to charge it to your room and they take care of your food and beverages? I know i get free rooms, but limited on the food. I never charge stuff to my room, so I don%26#39;t know how this works

    Difference of LFB /RFB

LFB covers most non-gourmet restaurants. RFB covers basically anything. There are some things that RFB doesn%26#39;t cover, so be aware before you assume -- for example, I believe the Starbucks at Showboat isn%26#39;t covered under RFB.

For the three Harrahs properties aside from Caesars, you charge to your room and the charges are automatically removed if they are valid (non-gourmet and one or two people, or under a certain price, depending on what you%26#39;re being set up with). At Caesars, it works a bit differently; a host has to actually approve the charges before they are removed, it%26#39;s not automatic. Most likely, at the other three properties, you%26#39;ll never see the charge appear on your account.

If in doubt, ask your host what restaurants are covered under your LFB, and how many people are covered.

Bottles of wine are typically also not included, but glasses of wine are. Most (all?) bar charges should be covered, too.

    Difference of LFB /RFB

    REMEMBER!!!!!!!

RFB/LFB only comes into effect after all of your comps have been used.

They will take all of your comps that are in your account, BEFORE, they pick up the charges!

but I don%26#39;t ever have what zero describes at Caesars. They pick up my charges the same at all HET properties. The only time a host needs to get involved is if a charge is mis-coded, then they will ask my host to remove it (which he always does)

    Bill

I%26#39;ve never heard of a host having to review each charge @ Caesars. That sounds a little cumbersome.

I%26#39;m staying at Caesars for the first time next trip and report back with what I find. :)

    TC

Zeromus is right. I have had problems at Caesars and that is what they told me...charges must be reviewed and approved. At Harrahs...never a problem.

    crystal

speaking of which.......DH and I will be staying at Harrahs on 6/11/12 and 13 - we have been told we are RFB. Now if I happen to be at Caesars and want to eat at Caesars instead of going all the way back to Harrahs - can I sign back to my room at Harrahs and expect that RFB will pick it up?

While it seems impossible to get a straight answer from Harrahs on this - it has been my experience that you can charge back from Caesars to Harrahs.

I have only had a problem charging back to Harrahs from Showboat and vice versa.

If the charges show up on your bill call a host and they can remove them (at their discretion of course).

Oh - but make sure you have that little slip of paper they give you at checkin with you at all times. They normally don%26#39;t ask for ID - but they always want that little paper thing.

I don%26#39;t think a host reviews charges for everyone at Caesars, I know they didn%26#39;t for me. For example, we had a very late-night meal last Saturday, I walked right upstairs at 410AM and checked my folio, charge for meal was not there, just tip. Same thing the next night, grabbed a round of drinks at Toga, took them upstairs about 230AM, charge not there, just tip. If there is a host manually approving every charge, they work 24 hours a day, and process each charge in under 3 minutes, LOL. If I eat at Kwi on LFB, I do have to have it manually approved by a host, but that%26#39;s because it%26#39;s not an LFB place. When I called the host about KWI, i asked him about the other charges never hitting my room, and he said if there is no history of ';comp abuse'; they do not have to go through them and approve them manually. But, if you have ';overcharged'; in the past, you will be scrutinized a little closer.

Do u have to be a certain level of player? I am only a platinum and i don%26#39;t have a host

    %26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;Do u have to be a certain level of player? I am only a platinum and i don%26#39;t have a host.%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;

I have never been offered RFB but I have been offered LFB a few times.

Based on JUST my own experience, I%26#39;d say you have to play fairly heavily---put $$$$ through machines at a fairly steady rate and drop close to a K of your own. I can%26#39;t think it would ever be given to a visitor who spent most of the time at the beach or in a club and dropped two or three hundred over three days, JMHO

I was also offered LFB following a fairly decent--not a hand pay -- win at Harrah%26#39;s.

Since we (Sis and I) usually hoard our comps to treat family members, to visit the spa or to use in Vegas, LFB doesn%26#39;t matter much to us.
