This town is really really ugly in many ways. Dumpy hotels, binge drinking bars, crowded beach, and noise noise noise. The demographic appears to be firmly in the meat-head camp. It%26#39;s all that%26#39;s wrong with a beach ';community.';
Don't Go!
I kind of agree with you. I see youa er from DC. Too bad you didn%26#39;t get to see some of the other shore towns. Each has it%26#39;s own personality. Cape may has many 5 star restaurants and is a very classy year round town, Ocean Grove and Ocean city are family towns with great swimming beaches the shore has so much to offer that you can by pass the ones you went to and still find what you are looking for
Don't Go!
I hesitate to respond to some of these posts about certain shore towns because you get attacked on here for making negative comments. However, I feel bad when I know someone came from a distance to go to such a dump. Seaside Hts has always been a dump and always will be. It attracts not the best element in either visitor or the element that lives there. Next time, I%26#39;m sure you will do a bit more research to find a nicer place to go. There is something for everyone at the shore; sorry you went to a place that attracts meatheads.
Yup. I thnk is was Yogi who said ';Nobody goes there anymore because it%26#39;s so crowded.'; I suppose this makes sense to someone.

I%26#39;m really glad I read this post, I have definitely re-thought going to Seaside Heights.
yes Seaside does not have 3 star hotels, but for some of us - its close enough to vacation at. I stay at the Belmont and the rooms are clean, the pool is clean and once you get to meet and great the staff, it becomes lots of fun. A bunch of us come year after year and have become friends. The boardwalk is fine, lots of diversity, which makes it fun. Some kiddie rides, but most for older, lets face it, you want kiddie rides go to Point Pleasant. I enjoy seaside and its fun for the few days a year I get to go. Would I like to go to Wildwood - probable, but not the 4 hour drive without the traffic. Vacations are what you make them. We enjoy our friends, the restaurants, such as on top of spaghetti, Klees, Hemmingways and the mexican deli, husband is into the boardwalk food. Daughter loves the water park, arcades and the beach. We always have a good time. If you are looking for an upper crust vacation. You are correct this is not it. Please try Cape May.
Yes, Seaside Heights definately has it%26#39;s bad points, but if you know where to go and what to do, it can be nice. Seaside Heights isn%26#39;t the nicest beach, but on somedays it%26#39;s free and so yes it can be noisy and crowded. However, I live close by and know that Seaside Park, Berkeley or Ortley Beaches are a better bet and not very far from SSH. Also, the SSH Boardwalk offers lots of free activities in the summer evenings and is a fun family place to be. The Sawmill Cafe has great deals on pizza and pitchers of soda, but Maruca%26#39;s has a better, more expensive pie. If you research and know what to expect, it will always make for a better experience.
I have to agree that although wildwood would be great, Seaside is the next best thing for me. I live not even a hour away and compared to Point Pleasant i like Seaside much better. I went alot last summer just for the day never had a problem and never encountered any bad people. I found the parking to be absolutely great as you can park right off the boardwalk which was very convenient when i have to lug a million things to the beach. For a day trip it is absolutely fine
I have allways enjoyed seaside. I allways go in the spring and fall.
For the past 11 years, my family gets the season beaches for Seaside Park.
I believe over the last 5 years Seaside Heights has gotten cleaner. The Boulevard is updated Better restaurants now. The boardwalk stills draws a rough crowd, especially on weekend nights. During the summer, the beach is free on Wed and Thurs and many more families are there.
I agree you will not find deluxe lodging, but it is not a terrible place to spend a day, especially on the free beach days.
I always feel really good about myself when I walk around Seaside and compare myself to everyone else walking around the boardwalk. Its a great self esteem boost.
