I%26#39;m helping to organize a get together of between 12 and 20 people (all adults, I think - if not RShip has me covered) at the end of June, the 23rd to 26th, so midweek. We met thru an online gambling simulation that used to be a lot of fun, so we all enjoy gambling. Aside from that we run the gamut in age (30 to ?), income brackets and interests.
I%26#39;m looking for ideas for restaurants (yes, the Irish Pub will be one) that can accommodate that many, aren%26#39;t too expensive (many were horrified at the buffet prices I quoted them - they%26#39;re used to Vegas) and are likely to be open during the week. I%26#39;m guessing near the boardwalk will be helpful too, as most won%26#39;t have cars and are staying on the boardwalk. Tastes vary, so a good selection helps, as does reasonable pricing (I%26#39;m steering them away from casino restaurants, tho they%26#39;re gonna hit the Harrah%26#39;s or Borgota buffet at some point).
We%26#39;re also looking for entertainment - they%26#39;re definitely going to the Cirque show at the Taj - any other suggestions for that time? I%26#39;m in AC so much I ignore much of what first timers would be interested in, tho I will advise to skip Ripleys and go for the haunted house.
They also want a poker tournament and were hoping a casino would help host (I know that won%26#39;t go because of both cost and legalities). Best I can figure is to have qualifying rounds in different hotel rooms, funneling down to one for the final table. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Keep in mind these people are used to Vegas and have been told of the differences, but I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;ll hit until they get the first $300 dinner check for two, lol.
So I%26#39;m looking for restaurant suggestions (reasonably priced but varied menu), entertainment choices, either shows or places to see (I already posted your list, Robert, think I overwhelmed them lol) and a way to host a poker tournament. Help!!
Sue
Suggestions for group of AC first timers?
If they don%26#39;t mind playing the tournament with others, Caesars has one weekdays at 3pm caesarsac.com/casinos/…poker-detail.html
Suggestions for group of AC first timers?
Sue,
Maybe a suggestion for the poker would be to play at one of the smaller poker rooms like Ballys. On Mondays we have been there and maybe 40 others showed up to play the tounament and a few 1-2 tables are going. They might be the best to set up the group and drink service is right there.
Taj, Caesars and Showboat would be too big for the group.
Good Luck!
If I were coming to such an event--and I was NOT invited! LOL-- I%26#39;d probably want to attend at least one get together/reception/meet and greet at a central location and I think some of the smaller meeting rooms I%26#39;ve seen at Bally%26#39;s would work for that. I see their website has a place to inquire about a meeting room, and you could see what they%26#39;d charge for wine and cheese -- cost to be divided by the group, of course. Just a suggestion. I%26#39;m sure all casinos have such places.
I%26#39;d also see if the Irish Pub wanted to serve a meal to the group on the patio--two choices, flat fee, cash bar.
Beyond that and supplying them with a list of options, I%26#39;d say your work is done. They%26#39;re old enough to fend for themselves, and any group who want to spend more time together can and will.
Speaking just for myself, I don%26#39;t like big group dinners/events.
Hope it works out for you.
Los Amigos, a mexican place located by The Walk has a second floor that could accommodate that many. You may want to check with them.
As long as you don%26#39;t want service with a smile Tony%26#39;s Baltimore Grill is very cheap.Take in the comedy club at Trop, look for coupons. Try a 3D movie at the IMAX there are coupons for them also at achotelexperts.com.
Thanks for all the suggestions, I%26#39;ll be posting this whole thread on the other group%26#39;s forum, so any further suggestions would be cool.
Finemind (and anyone else) you%26#39;re welcome to come meet this group, just be warned that I can only vouch for the sanity of one of them, Most of the time. Also this event is Tuesday to Friday, so unless you want to take a day off from work to meet ';The Nuts at the Bar';, it won%26#39;t really work.
Some of your group might enjoy the Garden Pier. It’s open again. The free movie they show of the history of AC is very good.
Some might enjoy seeing the Fountain show at the end of Caesar’s Pier. The Trinity pub there usually has lunch specials that are reasonable.

If the weather is nice you can take out from the famous White house and eat at the little park across the street.

Beer drinkers should like the selections at Firewaters in the Trop. They have the biggest beer selection in town. And you can get inexpensive sandwiches and similar items from the adjoining deli.

If you don’t like the menus there, go down the street to Atlantic Ave. to Tony’s, as jerry suggested, for one of the best local pizzas.

Then another block south, and around the corner on Morris Ave, is the Chelsea Pub, another old AC local place with inexpensive food and drink.

Any photographers might also enjoy climbing up the Lighthouse, or with a short ride, going into and up to the top of Lucy the Elephant in Margate.
Some might enjoy a sip at one of the beach bars if they are open. I think there will be three this year.
I hope some of this helps. Maybe I’ll get to catch up with you that week, as we MIGHT be there around then?
Let us know what your groups impressions are.
Sue,
Here’s a link to entertainment taking place from June 23 to 26.

And here are some details about what might be happening at the beach bars.

Thank you so much for those links, Dave! I found out about some shows I didn%26#39;t know were happening and was reminded of a few things I%26#39;d forgotten, such as the Shoreline %26amp; Shipwrecks tour - keep meaning to do that!
A big thanks to everyone who posted. I still don%26#39;t know what we%26#39;ll do about the poker, but I%26#39;m going to try to convince them to enter one of the casino tourneys.
I love this forum - everyone here is so helpful!
take them all to Brighton Park. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAlIYbzxvrE Take them into the Visitor%26#39;s Center at the base of the old skywalk for local info. There is a brass plaque still affixed to the cement outside the skywalk from the original dedication of The Sands. Inside, they can get a photo op with Mr Peanut. They can get a hot Philly pretzel at Philadelphia Pretzel Factory at Bally%26#39;s %26amp; sit and eat them at the ampitheatre at Brighton Park which has a view of the fountain [REALLY cheap lunch]. They can view the Korean War Memorial http://www.njcrda.com/koreanwar.html %26amp; www.state.nj.us/military/korea/main.html
They can all go home %26amp; say they had lunch at Park Place
