Suggestions for a weekend house rental for a baby shower BBQ

Hi there:

My best friend is expecting and would love a BBQ baby shower on the Jersey Shore. I am looking for a weekend (2-night) rental of a modern house or condo with the ability to host a BBQ of about 20 people either in a private yard or deck. The space must be modern, clean, and must be able to sleep at least 8 comfortably. It must also be within 5 blocks of the beach. The closer to NYC, the better. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

You didn%26#39;t mention when you hope to hold this baby shower. Many if not most of the house rentals have a minimum rental period of one week during the summer. You would have an easier time in June or Sept. I would suggest some by owner sites as they may be easier to negotiate with if they still have periods of time where they have openings.

Long Beach Island is about as far south as I would recommend and that is about 100 miles south of NYC. The communities of North Beach, Loveladies and Harvey Cedars are known for large modern houses. One caveat of ';modern'; (and I live in reversed living in the summer), is that it is often difficult to entertain in the yard, and decks would need to be pretty large to have a primarily outside party. Beach Haven has some larger victorian style (both historic and ';new'; construction) that have easy access to yards. Beach Haven also has a lot of hotel/motel/Inn choices for extra guests and an active restaurant/night life area.

There are some other lovely communities closer to NYC that I do not know enough about such as Spring Lake, Sea Girt etc.

You might also check into some of the B%26amp;Bs along the southern Monmouth County shore - Ocean Grove, Spring Lake, Avon, Sea Girt, etc. The right one will work with you to provide facilities and/or whatever you need for the BBQ. In this economy, they will be most happy to accommodate your group!

As has been said, the time of the year will be the most important element. If you want to do it from now through August you will be hard pressed but September will be easier and the weather is still great.
